Waitlisted E-Ticket can also be booked for all trains.

IRCTC started allowing the booking of wait listed tickets on all trains.

Earlier, this facility was for only Rajadhanis and Shats.

Cancelling waitlisted e ticket after departure

I booked a waitlisted tatkal eticket (PNR 4510301285) by 2675 Kovai express from Chennai to Coimbatore, on 16th May for travel on 17th. At 4.15 am on 17th (dep 6.15 am) I found that the ticket didin't get confirmed and tried irctc site to cancel but the site was closed (supposed to be available from 4.00 am). I bought an unreserved ticket from the station and completed my travel and couldn't do anything to cancel the e ticket for 2 days. On coming back today , I logged into irctc site and found no trace of this ticket in my booked ticket history.

When I checked my email, I had 2 emails from irctc one confirming the booking of the e ticket(16th May 6.34PM) and another confirming the cancellation and refund (19th May 3.25pm)

It looks like all unconfirmed waitlisted tickets will be automatically cancelled by irctc.

ANy some one throw more light on this

Dear Raju,

##Somebody was telling that WAITLISTED E-TICKETS, if do not move either into Confirmed/RAC, would get AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED and the amount is refunded by IRCTC.

##Your case has proved that this is correct!!!

Well, looking back on this page I see I did a rant on April 29th last year re not getting through to Gateway. From then on whenever I tried my Visa card was never accepted.(Nothing wrong with it) FINALLY!! Today I booked tickets using my card - I did it via Axis Gateway and YES! it worked. I have been trying to book online for more than a year now. Axis was mentioned a few weeks back as a successful Gateway for another member, I kept that tip in mind, and now when I wanted tickets went first to that one. Nice to know one of them finally works for me and I can book from home - no need for the agent now.

Glad it's working out for you, Aishah. I've also used Axis and I might be the only IMer who has nothing but good things to say about IRCTC; I've booked with them 8 times now and never had a problem. In fact, I would venture to say that the system is amongst the best in the world based on my limited experiences.

I absolutely agree with you Bruce re the system - when it works with your Visa!! Now that Axis is there what a difference. It has never gone through with all the other Gateways, and a few months back I got a renewed Visa Card when I was back in Oz. Tried again for bookings through Citibank and ICICI, ended up going to local agent. When I read about Axis working here, thought this time I'd try it - end of story!

Hi guys,

Just used the IRCTC site for the first time in a year or so, and notice it still has some of those idiosyncratic headaches! Quick question - I've completed my two bookings. On my printed reservation form, my Coach No/Seat No/Status are described as:
/0000/Confirm

When I booked my tickets for my trip last year, the majority had a coach and seat number allocated at the time of booking. The other was RAC, and was changed to a coach and seat number a few days before my journey. Anything I need to worry about?!

Thanks

Tim

Nothing to worry about - you have a confirmed booking and your berth will be allocated when you go to catch the train. There will be a list on the carriage near the door with your name on it. You could if you wanted closer to time of travel check your account and see if your berth is listed there - I think you go to PNR status to see this.

The Indian Railway website for on-line reservation and e-ticket is truly wonderful. Now for something different in terms of actual IR experience.

Earlier this month I had to go to Rourkela from KGP and was planning on taking a car and going to Sambalpur. My return was an overnight train from Sambalpur to KGP. On reaching Rourkela, I found that I would not be able to get my work done in Sambalpur since it was a local holiday. I rushed back to Rourkela station from my appointment place and lo and behold had to stand it line to cancel the Sambapur-KG ticket and try to get a Rourkela-KGP AC chair car - by Ispat Exp - I was at the station about the time that the train was to arrive (Ispat), luckily it was late (always is on this section) and was advised to get a "general" ticket and hop onto the AC chair Car hoping that the TTC would find a vacant seat for me (could not buy it at Rourkela station since the chart was already done). Sure enough that worked, the chap sitting next to me was from Rourkela (although a Punjabi whose family had settled there long time ago) - and it turns out that he knew very well a number of my former classmates from REC Rourkela (now NIT). What a coincidence - we chatted and the time flew - he had to get off in Jamshedpur.

I love these kinds of "sudden" meeting - it has happened to me so many times in different parts of the world. I remember being in the Seagate manufacturing fab in Derry, Northern Ireland and meeting some of my former colleagues from a previous company that I used to work for.

Life is good and getting better

Cheers

Nattusbs

PS: So are we having a Hyd meetup between Oct 3rd and 9th? As the Nike adv says "Just do it".

Nice story, Nattusbs! It reminds me of the time Mr K and I were going to Manali, but we missed the timing of the train - I had read it as going 8.00p.m. but instead it had already gone at 8.00a.m. So, since we were there early enough for Mandore Express, due to depart at 7.30 p.m., Mr K bought 2 2nd class tickets, and we raced along to 2A/C carriage. TC told him to sit down inside and he'd be along soon. All sorted out with 2 berths available as the train was moving! We paid the difference between our tickets and the upgraded ones.
We went to Delhi and caught an overnight bus to Manali the next evening.

I just nearly made a massive mistake, I asked a friend to try to book my flights whilst I was at work, after work I met with him and found he still hadn't booked the tickets, he was rightly concerned that if we booked on his credit card I may have trouble changing the return flight if I needed to.

I then tried to book and copied the dates I'd given my friend, 17/10 departure...... I'd told him October when I meant November, if he'd booked the tickets, I would have had less than 3 weeks to earn my spending money for a 6 month trip, 7 weeks to save for a 5 month trip is difficult, but 3 weeks for 6 months may have lead to dozens of nights on railway platforms I think.

Another thing u need to be careful about is the time the train arrives at the station. Some trains have scheduled arrival just after midnight. In this case u should book for the next day's train. (Have seen so many peple stranded that i thought i should post this even though this is quite obvious).
