1)The whole idea of E-ticketing is so that you don't have to pick up a ticket. All you have to do is print out your existing E-Ticket and take it on board with the photo ID you referenced when booking (usually a passport).
2)You won't be able to board. You can check your waitlist status on the site. With a WL4/5, I wouldn't worry too much about making the train. I took that same train once; wow, was it ever dirty, even in 2A. My journey occurred on a holiday and I never saw a conductor the entire trip of 12-14 hours. I hope they're not using the same ancient cars as when I traveled 4 years ago.
3)I've had great luck with the site. If you had a slow connection in Vietnam, I would guess that's the problem. How was the service for other websites you accessed that day?

This may be because my Firefox is set to block popups, advertisements, etc. I use Explorer - have not tried Opera.

You need to have the tickets before boarding.You can print e.tickets on the site.But you must have one of the authorised ID with you.But with a paper ticket ID card is not required.When you register in IRCTC you can specify the delivery address

I am an apt online user. For anything like this, i don't need any help as such (you know if you are a geek, online booking is like a piece of cake) but This Particular website developed by great people, has issues that never get resolved.

Artistic - are you talking about the IRCTC booking website? It's certainly been working for me - last year as soon as Axis Payment Gateway came on, and again just the other day.

It is a good site and the Citibank Payment gareway worls well and accpte Credit Crads issued outside India

I've used irtc with mastercard, firefox and axis gateway, and so far it's been very easy. I think it pays to thoroughly read all of this thread and the guides on the irtc website.I commend India Rail for this wonderfully helpful innovation.

Has any one booked a Tatkal ticket over the internet for a Sr Citizen? I tried for my mom-in-law and after checking Sr Citizen the screen showed availability "0".I tried again without checking the Sr.Citizen box.I want some light one this

I had to cancel e.tickets and i could cancell them easily without standing in a line which you have to do with a normal ticket

Hi,

A quick question. One of my friend asked me to book teh ticket on train number 8101 Tata nagar to Delhi (05.04.09) on net but boarding at Renukut(06.04.09) at the time of making payment it showed the status as available 039 but when we madwe the payment it showed status as WL 35.

This is quite surpurising as the status of the WL was same as from Renukut to DLI. On calling the helpline number they told that hte status is from RENUKUT.

But when I used to book tickets from railway booking counter the things were otherwise i.e you will get a confirmed ticket from TATA nagar (or any other station )though there is a waiting status at RENUKUT ( or any other station)

Can anyone clarify
