Waitlisted E-Ticket can also be booked for all trains.

IRCTC started allowing the booking of wait listed tickets on all trains.

Earlier, this facility was for only Rajadhanis and Shats.

Cancelling waitlisted e ticket after departure

I booked a waitlisted tatkal eticket (PNR 4510301285) by 2675 Kovai express from Chennai to Coimbatore, on 16th May for travel on 17th. At 4.15 am on 17th (dep 6.15 am) I found that the ticket didin't get confirmed and tried irctc site to cancel but the site was closed (supposed to be available from 4.00 am). I bought an unreserved ticket from the station and completed my travel and couldn't do anything to cancel the e ticket for 2 days. On coming back today , I logged into irctc site and found no trace of this ticket in my booked ticket history.

When I checked my email, I had 2 emails from irctc one confirming the booking of the e ticket(16th May 6.34PM) and another confirming the cancellation and refund (19th May 3.25pm)

It looks like all unconfirmed waitlisted tickets will be automatically cancelled by irctc.

ANy some one throw more light on this

Dear Raju,

##Somebody was telling that WAITLISTED E-TICKETS, if do not move either into Confirmed/RAC, would get AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED and the amount is refunded by IRCTC.

##Your case has proved that this is correct!!!

Well, looking back on this page I see I did a rant on April 29th last year re not getting through to Gateway. From then on whenever I tried my Visa card was never accepted.(Nothing wrong with it) FINALLY!! Today I booked tickets using my card - I did it via Axis Gateway and YES! it worked. I have been trying to book online for more than a year now. Axis was mentioned a few weeks back as a successful Gateway for another member, I kept that tip in mind, and now when I wanted tickets went first to that one. Nice to know one of them finally works for me and I can book from home - no need for the agent now.

Glad it's working out for you, Aishah. I've also used Axis and I might be the only IMer who has nothing but good things to say about IRCTC; I've booked with them 8 times now and never had a problem. In fact, I would venture to say that the system is amongst the best in the world based on my limited experiences.

I absolutely agree with you Bruce re the system - when it works with your Visa!! Now that Axis is there what a difference. It has never gone through with all the other Gateways, and a few months back I got a renewed Visa Card when I was back in Oz. Tried again for bookings through Citibank and ICICI, ended up going to local agent. When I read about Axis working here, thought this time I'd try it - end of story!

Hi guys,

Just used the IRCTC site for the first time in a year or so, and notice it still has some of those idiosyncratic headaches! Quick question - I've completed my two bookings. On my printed reservation form, my Coach No/Seat No/Status are described as:
/0000/Confirm

When I booked my tickets for my trip last year, the majority had a coach and seat number allocated at the time of booking. The other was RAC, and was changed to a coach and seat number a few days before my journey. Anything I need to worry about?!

Thanks

Tim

Nothing to worry about - you have a confirmed booking and your berth will be allocated when you go to catch the train. There will be a list on the carriage near the door with your name on it. You could if you wanted closer to time of travel check your account and see if your berth is listed there - I think you go to PNR status to see this.
