It is possible to book through IRCTC but it is not straightforward. You need to set up an account with them and then send them a scan of your passport so they will release a code that allows you to activate the account.

The process has been discussed at length in this thread

You need time and patience.

Another option is to book Foreign Tourist Quota tickets when you get to Delhi. The availabilty of these can be checked on indiarailinfo.com or on the Indian railways website. The problem is that they cannot be booked from outside India.

It is worth persevering as train travel in India is a wonderful experience.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

when was Quickbook withdrawn for 8-10 am ?

While trying to book tatkal tickets using Quickbook options I got error message that Quickbook is not allowed from 8-10 am. I had used this option for tatkal booking 6 months back.

When was this facility withdrawn from irctc site?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do....... Explore. Dream. Discover.
