Northeast to Southwest

Hello, all,

I didn't get much response to this question in the itineraries section

so maybe I'll have better luck here:

I'm planning on visiting Varanasi and Bodhgaya for a week in March, then spending a week in Kerala.

So here's the question:

How would you spend 2-5 days traveling from India's northeast all the way to Cochin. I have no illusions about seeing very much, but I would like to take a train for at least part of the journey.

So there's plenty of flexibility for creative minds......

Hello Melanie

You need to give a bit more info really, the website is much too busy these days to go searching though your other posts for a clue as to what you may be interested in or to find out if you've been to India before.

There are as many different worlds as there are routes between Varanasi/Gaya and kerala.

Also, Assam is considered to be the start of the north-east of India.

Hi Melanie I am sailing in the same boat as you are I am planning to travel to the north east that is Mizoram probably in 3 months time. I am collecting as much information as possible for my trip, can you tell me about your trip to the north east which I think will be very helpful.

Currently, Varanasi is connected to Ernakulam (Kerala) once in a week. You may have to arrange your schedule in such a manner that you should be able to get into this train, which consumes 54 Hours to cover 2,765 Kms. (Varanasi-Ernakulam):-

This apart, Varanasi is connected to Madras - twice in a week; and Mughalsarai (17 Kms. away from Varanasi) is also connected to Madras - twice in a week. From Madras, there are Two Daily Trains to Ernakulam.
