Non-AC First class gone?

Sorry if this information exists already but I couldn't find it easily. I was browsing various train databases and noticed that I didnt see any non-AC 1st class bogies on trains!

Are the old non-ac 1st class not around anymore? In good weather, they were better than the AC, since you could open the windows and still have a closed compartment for your family's privacy.

They have been phased out, although, I gather there are certain routes (say south west India) where they do still run.

I know that Steven_ber is a big fan of the old 1st class (non-AC), but, I remember my childhood days when we used to take these frequently - it was too dusty - presumably due to the smoke from the steam engines in those days.

I do feel that II AC today is the way to travel - comfortable and you still get to meet many Indians - III AC is a bit crowded for my liking.

Cheers

There are first class coaches but are not very popular today and hence only a few trains have them.

FC non-AC has been phased out. Only a few trains might still be existing with this class, which only one IM member can tell you about.

I've booked one as well, Haridwar-Amritsar. I'm making it a goal to try as many train classes as possible, though I haven't decided whether I'm braving 2S. When I saw that FC was available on the HW/ASR train, I gave it a go. (4631 DDN ASR EXPRESS)

most FC non AC seems to be chair cars, the berths are mostly long gone.

I actually meant, it is being phased out as the railways do not find FC financially viable any more. Most trains in the north do not have this class, AC classes have replaced non-AC FC in most rakes.

##You are NOT wrong,Sir. There used to be non-AC First Class Chair Cars in the olden days which have since been replaced with First Class AC.Chair Cars (**2x2seating) otherwise known as
Executive Class, normally found only in some of the Shatabdhi Expresses.

##We had First Class Coaches also (non-AC) with 3 Coupes & 3 Cabins. These coaches have been replaced by 3AC coaches in majority of the trains, but are being continuedd in few trains, but the authorities have also started IAC Coaches in some premium trains.

AC wouldn't be so bad if the windows weren't so dirty and badly tinted- makes photography and even simple viewing a disappointment.
