A newly started train service will run through Goa's Madgaon station, via the Konkan railway to connect Amritsar, Delhi, Panvel (near Mumbai), as well as Cochin and the Kerala backwaters.
The train will run weekly, starting today.
The train Amritsar-Kochuveli Weekly Express (2484) would depart from Amritsar on every Sunday at 6.05 am and reach Kochuveli at 3.40 pm on the third day.
During its return journey, it would depart from Kochuveli on every Wednesday at 8.50 am and arrive at Amritsar around 7.35 pm on the third day.
It would stop at Beas, Jalandhar city, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, New Delhi, Hazrat Nizammudin, Kota, Vadodara, Surat Panvel, Madgaon, Mangalore, Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Trichur, Ernakulam, Allappuzha, Kayankulam and Kollam Junction stations.

Three and a half days each way!

Presumably this new service is good news because the old journey was even longer, yes?

Not really.
Many travelers from Goa also go to Kerala, so one more option up and down the coast.
2. Trains from Mumbai do get crowded in the peak holiday season, so the option of entraining at Panvel for Goa.
3. Yet another train between Delhi and Gujarat.
4. Many visitors are headed for the Golden temple; a direct train from the south and west for them.

I apologize if this has been asked before (I am having trouble working it out) I want to get a train from Delhi to Goa. What is the main station in Goa? Do you know what train number it is...i heard it's 24hrs. Do know if you can get on and off the train with the same ticket? I want to know what towns the train goes through, see if it would be good to stop over somewhere.

what are you talking about ?

My comment was in reference to Amritsar to Kochuveli.

I do not what train numbers you have mentioned, but I have traveled in Goa Sampark Kranti, which I guess takes the same time forDelhi - Madgaon.

Dear Shashank,

##You have furnished the details for NZM-MAO Journey, and then, in your next post, passed the comment "This is a super long journey"; hence, I got confused.:-)

##The 2484 takes 57hrs.35mts to cover 3293Kms.(**actual) because the KR distance of 760 Kms. is inflated by 304Kms. for the purpose of collecting the fares. In any case, 2483/2484 joins the elite club of trains travelling for 3000+Kms. over Indian Railways.

I furnish below the list of trains which travel for +3000Kms.
*****
6317/6318...........3720Kms.
6687/6688...........3613Kms.
2515/2516...........3552Kms.
2521/2522...........3441Kms.
5929/5930...........3383Kms.
5635/5636...........3296Kms.
2511/2512...........3251Kms.
2653/2654...........3113Kms.(*actua l)
2625/2626...........3037Kms.
2643/2644...........3015Kms.
****
Kindly observe, out of the above, except 2625/2626,2511/2512,
all others are Weeklies only.

We booked our tickets from Amritsar down to Kerala via Delhi before Christmas not knowing we could of booked direct but on looking on the schedule it runs downs the coast which is a journey we have made before and this time we seem to go via Tamil Nadu which we have never seen but its great to have choice, Steve
