HI lovetif,

The process for foreigners booking train tickets with IRCTC and cleartrip is no longer as straightforward as it once was.It all changed about a month ago.

IRCTC and Cleartrip now require an Indian mobile telephone number...BUT there is one way around this..but it seems like a lot of trouble.

Please read this thread.

How to synchronise Cleartrip with IRCTC without an Indian mobile!

This method worked for me today.

There are two important points.
A Mobile Verification Code can be the same as a Mobile OPT (One Time Password) and verification of IRCTC account and the synchronising of Cleartrip account with IRCTC occur simultaneously.

The process is all from the Cleartrip site, no need to visit IRCTC.
Register for a IRCTC account at Cleartrip and receive an email with the title of ‘SUCCESSFUL REGISTRATION of ‘user name here’ for IRCTC Bookings’.
Then send a copy of your passport to IRCTC and get back a Mobile Verification Code.
Use the Mobile Verification Code as the Mobile OTP - and yes it was done.

i have gone through the registration process on cleartrip only to hit a wall: my e-mail is already in use at IRCTC. really? well i can't log in or retrieve my username/password. where to go now in achieving this/seat61 workaround?

i have different e-mail addresses and a heap of indian mates in india. can't i use this different e-mail/their mobile number, receive the 'successful registration' message, send them my passport copy to receive the OTP??

Are you saying, that you are using someone else's mobile number ? OR
Are you saying that you had used your email some time while back and you forget your password ?

hey, thanks for getting back to me but we can kind of ignore that for now...as i have now registered a different e-mail and going through the seat61 workaround and been issued my SMS OTP, okay, next step, here we go..

meanwhile - all tickets are waitlisted through april/may in to the hundreds, great.

I'm in the midst of a spectacular hassle with IRCTC and Cleartrip. The only advice I can give people is to start with Cleartrip and avoid the IRCTC site altogether. Follow the workaround on Seat61 - I wish I had. I leave for India in a month and have exactly zero trains booked. Might be in one place for a long time, eh!

All trains for our trip booked successfully through Cleartrip with help from seat61 and on here, apart from one that just became available to book, oh dear, forgot password! Couldn't get back in no matter what even if we clicked the "forgot password button" silly I know!
Dreading that we will have to go through whole registration process again, possibly with a different e-mail address, just to book this one train!
