Hi,
we have one more online booking website for indian railway. THOMAS COOK has started this service last week and now we can get relief from the server down of irctc. they have made the site user friendly and also in a very simple way. try your self at their site.

This is very useful info! Wish I had known this a few hours ago!

I booked some train tickets to Renigunta (Tirupathi), just today at 8:30AM. Today, the IRCTC-site, surprisingly, worked like a charm! Maybe Competition helps!

Will try out your link too.

Hey bissa,
yeah I just went and had a play on that Thomas Cook website. It is much more user friendly. After my bad experience with irctc, I will never be going back to it to book trains now that I know about this one! Thanks!

Looks good - thank you, bissa!
Has anyone booked a ticket with this service? I mean one of the worst problems with the IRCTC-site is payment not going through, so it would be interesting how the Thomas Cook site handles this...

Very basic layout, boring, uninspiring and dated, but the real test will be how easy it is to book tickets on the website.

Pay more.

I booked two 2AC tickets to Patna on the Rajdhani this afternoon on the IRCTC website and paid Rs. 3285.

Here is what Thomascook quotes:

Fare Details
Adult Base Fare-2 3260
Reservation Charge 0
Other Charges 0
Super Fast Charges 0
Concession/Tatkal Chrg 0
Total Railway Fare 3260
IRCTC Service Charge 22
TC Service Charge 18
Txn Fee 53.00
GST 11.00
Total Fare 3364.00

Make your own decision.

Hello GPI and welcome to indiamike.com

Those extra charges (as a percentage) are reasonable, but would be high if the same charges applied to a shorter distance journey in Sleeper Class.

But the extra charges will not worry most foreign tourists, as long as the website is easy to use and understand.

I done a quick check to see if the website managed to list all trains, and it did, but it was only a quick check on some trains that I know other websites seem to miss, even though their info comes from the Indian Railways server.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome Steven,

I agree with you.

I personally never ever have had a problem with IRCTC bookings or cancellations in the last few years. From what I have read in the forum so far is that other people have had problems in bookings, so if the ThomasCook website works well, it would be a welcome alternative to IRCTC.

Also,I would like to thank you for all the information you have provided about Indian Railways on this forum.I have read some, hope to read more.

Bug

Hey all!

I have been trying to book my train ticket, after endless tries with Indian railways, I tried with Thomas Cook, and it kept giving me an error. I therefore decided to call the Thomas Cook indian agency.

It finally turned out reservations may be paid only with indian credit cards, international ones do not work!

So frustrating

I was having trouble with getting my payment through with ICICI too, I'd booked a fw tickets and paid through the citibank gateway, but when I went to book some more, no citibank option came up for me! I might try again now, knowing someone else has had some luck!
