New Delhi Rail Station to Connaught Place

Sigh. Hurrah -- All of my rail tickets are now booked - all possible due to amazing assistance from IMers. I could not have found my way through the internet booking process without you. THANK YOU ALL.

I'd now appreciate suggestions on the best way to travel from The New Delhi rail station to Connaught Place. I've heard that the newly opened underground (metro) connects both. Is it an easy exercise? Or would an autorickshaw or taxi be better?

i wud advise u to hire an auto rickshaw......as by the time u wud be through the ticket-counter of metro station, u will reach Cannaugh place by an auto... auto rickshaw is the cheap and best option for this route...

Go the auto, so much easier and you'll see a little bit of Delhi as you go too
The fare will probably be about 20/30 rupees, or cheaper if you can convince the driver to use the meter (good luck with that!)

Thanks - As a first-timer I expect I'll be paying 30 Rp. But then again I will have been in the country for two weeks and may be better at the bargaining!!

From ND Rly.stn. to CP is walking distance. Of course, if you're carrying luggage, it makes sense to hire an auto. Tell the autodriver which block in CP you want to go to and fix the fare beforehand - should not be more than Rs.25/-.

Shouldn't be, but it's difficult enough to get them down to 30 in that area - too used to us silly gora paying way too much

Against all advice for autorik travel, i will suggest u to take a metro, fare Rs.6, aircon,very comfortable and drops u in heart of CP,no traffic jams, saves you the time spent on haggling for fare with driver.The metro station(very clean and elegant as compared to NDLS) is at Ndls railway station only. The name of Cp station is rajivGandhi chowk(chowk or something like that) has esclators. Takes less than 5 minutes to reach CP.

Thanks for your comments. The diversity of feedback from IMers is what I really love about the forum. We will wait until we arrive and if we are not up to some rick shaw bargaining, we will take the underground. But then we do not get door to door service with our bags (small as they are).
