Need some clarification on availability
Hi
I’m trying to book a ticket on the Vadodara Express (2928 – Vadodara to Mumbai Central) on 24th October 2009 and the status of the availability for 1AC shows as follows: Train No Train Name Date Source Station Destination Station Class 2928 VADODARA EXP 24- Oct- 2009 BRC BCT 1A Status Report Serial No Date Status 1 24- Oct- 2009 WL/AVAILABLE 2 25- Oct- 2009 WL/AVAILABLE 3 26- Oct- 2009 WL 2/WL 2 4 27- Oct- 2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 5 28- Oct- 2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 6 29- Oct- 2009 AVAILABLE- 0001 (This is from the IRCTC website.) I’m a bit confused because it simply says “AVAILABLE”, not the number of seats available as it normally does for other classes or dates (see 27th Oct for example) – if I book will my ticket be confirmed? Also, for 2AC it shows WL0020/WL0010 – what are my chances of that being confirmed? Greatly appreciate any help that you guys can give me. |

The first number is the position you join the queue, so this number will never change, the 2nd number is your current position after cancellations.
So, WL/Available means a waitlist was started, but there have since been cancellations and there are now seats (or seat) available. But there is no way of knowing the number of seats available. If you have WL/Available and there are only 2 travelling, take this option, even if there is only one seat remaining, both should get seats when the reservation chart is prepared, this is because there are a few seats held back for certain quotas, and the reservation clerk should notice 2 people traveling together and confirm the 2nd seat, it's not guarenteed though. I don't think that 2A waitlist number would get confirmed, it would be close, but you need at least 16 cancellations for 2 people to get confirmed seats, and it looks like ther is only 1 x 2A carriage (46 seats). I'd go for the 1A option, but not if more than 2 people traveling. |
