Need Info: Ticket for 7 yr Old
My friend booked to and fro e-tkts for him and his wife in Train No 6609 and 6610 (TEN-CBE and CBE-TEN)on 10th OCt and 11 th Oct respectively. Now he plans to take his 7yr old son also with him.But he didn't take tkt for him. He asks me how to book a tkt for him?
Could he take a open ticket for his son and take him with him?Is that open tkt enough (without any extra cost)? or he needs to get permission from TTE? or Could he take a separate eticket for his son alone and use that?If yes what documents needed for his 7 yr old son while tkt checking for this eticket? My general doubt is also that whether an eticket can be booked for a minor(i.e <18 yr age). Because this minor could not have the ids demanded by IRCTC . In such case what documents or what kind of ids can be produced? Thanks in advance |

I think (am pretty sure) nowadays the whole party can travel on one of the carriers' ID's. (Also, the requirement to enter ID details when booking has been dropped, as far as I know. One still needs to be able to produce an ID when traveling though. Moreover I don't know this, but I would assume children always traveled on their parents' ID's, for lack of their own.)
He'd need to get his son a (regular adult) ticket, if he is to be assured of a reserved seat for him. The problem I foresee however is if he books him a ticket now, the seat if confirmed at all won't necessarily be anywhere near to him. I guess I'd just speak to the TTE and/or my co-passengers about it once on the train, and see if an arrangement can be made. I'd be surprised if there couldn't be. If he can't get him a confirmed seat, he could get his son an unreserved ticket, then speak to the TTE if this can be upgraded to his class and carriage (and pay the difference. The option is not allowed on some superfast trains, I think.) The thing is if there is no seat available to upgrade to, and there may well not be, his son (or one of the others in the party) would have to remain in the Unreserved cabins. The TTE may well agree to let the son sit with his parents in the daytime; by night when there is no berth available, this becomes trickier though. Although if the child can sleep on one berth with his parents, the TTE might again agree with it, I guess.

Dear Xanthus,
##Instead of an E-Ticket, please tell your friend to purchase a "normal" ticket in the name of his son. Let him not bother, even if it do not gets confirmed. Nobody would object if he keeps his son with him. ##If he purchases a normal ticket in the counter, need to bother about i.d.proof. He can also avoid the payment of difference in fare, if he purchases unreserved ticket on the day of journey. |

That's good reassurance to hear, VSP
![]() It had indeed struck me I can't imagine people giving you much trouble about having your child with you. Just wasn't sure how it would work out in practice. |

Thanks for replies
Thanks for replies! I asked my friend to get a normal ticket for his son and he is doing so..
My another query is whether there is a possibility for a minor (i.e <18 yr age)(who travels alone) to book an eticket. Because this minor could not have the ids demanded by IRCTC . In such cases what documents or what kind of ids can be produced? Can he show his school or college id? Will the TTE accept the id for the E ticket if booked? Else Minors don't have the E ticketing option ?? |
