Nasik to Murud
Hi,
I am hoping that someone might have a better idea. My boyfriend and I are going to Nasik and then want to go to Murud. At the moment, by my research, it is easiest to just go back to Mumbai overnight and then take the Hydrofoil to Madvna, then bus to Alibag and local bus to Murud. Is there an easier or more time efficient way to do this? Thanks! |

There's an early morning train from Nasik Rd (05:35) to Panvel (09:00), not sure if Panvel would be a better option than Mumbai.
I seem to remember someone saying that Pen was the closest trrain station to Alibag, but the above train gets to Panvel too late for the passenger train to Pen, but it's only 36kms from Panvel to Pen. Anyway, just a thought, a local can advise better.

Steve,
Thanks for your help, and suggestion. I have just made one of those 'learner fatal mistakes' in my eagerness and booked the train to Nasik before checking the return availability and am heading into a pickle. By any chance do you know what the status codes mean on IRTC as I am getting an Regret/WL1 and don't know what it means And I also don't know what an AC Chair Car means - what is the difference between 1st and 2nd class AC??Do you know if there is is anywhere on their site that explains what all the codes mean? Any help would be great, am starting to feel the trip coming very quickly without all the important details arranged. Cheers, Amy |

Regret/WL1 means - regretfully no more bookings allowed - this happens when the waitlist is so long that you've got no chance of getting on the train.
1st Class air con (1A) - very comfortable seatst hat turn into beds for long distance trains, the most spacious class. 2nd Class air con (2-tier)(2A) - very comfortable seatst hat turn into beds for long distance trains, very comfortable and spacious. Air Con Chair Class (CC) is fixed seats in an air conditioned carriage, not very spacious and could be a bit more comfortable, but they are OK and are mainly used on short distance trains. See www.seat61.com for photos of the classes. I don't know if there is anywhere on their site that explains all the codes, but just ask here, many members know what they all mean. |
