Mysore to Cochin via Ooty or Coorg?

I had planned to travel via Ooty but realized it may be too cold there at the end of January (requiring extra warm clothes - and I want warmth not Toronto weather!) so I am looking at taking the bus to Madikeri and getting a short look at Coorg. Getting from there to Cochin may be tricky though.
Any thoughts on the preferred route, cold nights in Ooty etc?

There will likely be a train from Mysore to Mangalore by the time you travel, the gauge conversion of the track has just been completed so passenger trains should be starting soon, the timetable for the Mysore - Mangalore train will be as follows..

Train 6517 departs Bangalore daily at 19:25, then arrives at Mysore at 22:35, departing at 23:00 and gets to Mangalore at 08:00. the train will have 2 tier air con and Sleeper class (not air con).

Going the other way......

Train 6518 departs Mangalore daily at 19:30 and gets to Mysore at 04:30 (departing at 05:00 and getting to Bangalore at 08:20).

HI

To reach Cochin from Mysore..you have to go Via Coorg...which is drive through nagarhole national park, thru a part of coorg district ( Kutta precisely ) and enter Kerala state through the Wyanad national park.

Or

If you go via Ooty, your jouney might get longer. From mysore..get to Bandipur wildlife sanctuary, drive to masinagudi ( in Tamilnadu ) proceed to Ooty and get to Cochin.

1st route is shorter.

Both routes are beautiful.

Question Bus Destination?

I understand I will now have to go through through those 2 national parks (sounds lovely) but what are the destinations - to make sure I am on the correct bus - as they cross state boundaries? Will I have to transfer at some point?
