Question Mumbai Train Station

Can anyone tell me if the train station which goes under the code CSTM in Mumbai has a pre paid taxi system similar to that of the airport? If not any idea how much a taxi should cost between there and Colaba?
does that also go under the name of Victoria Station which has since been changed to another name?

About how far is this station from the Colaba district?

Mahalo

Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSTM) is still popularly known as VT. It should cost you around Rs. 30-60, depending where in Colaba do you wish to go. The beginning of Colaba market should be around 2 kms from the station..and towards the end or if you are going to Cuffe Parade.. it could be around 4 -5 kms..

thanks for the information - I guess they do not have a pre paid taxi system like the airport?

We are going to Shelleys Hotel, Opposite the Radio Club, near the Gateway Of India & the Taj Mahal

pre-paid taxi

Sorry, I cannot remember.. However , if you know how much to pay, you should eventually find someone willing to take you for the right price..

In the last few years I have taken trains / got down mainly at Mumbai Central or Dadar..

Mumbai cabbies are generally honest.. except sometimes at Mumbai central or at the airport. At central it is usually a better idea (as indeed in most places), if you dont have too much luggage, to walk a few yards, and be outside the station compound..

Taxis may have to sometimes queue up for several hours... so they are reluctant to take short fares.. though sometimes I take a train to Mumbai central and go to Kemps Corner (about Rs. 35/-) not much trouble. Best is walk out of the station..

As a foreigner, I am sure if you asked the cop on the taxi queue, he would help
