More reservation issues

Am trying to make a booking online and have run into trouble. Made it all the way through to the payment details, used the Citi PG option, then the "other card" option, entered my details and got the response that the transaction did not go through due to inadequate funds or incorrect data.
There are plenty of funds, not to mention that all data is correct. The best part is that my bank's online site shows the charge by IRCTC.
Has anyone seen this before? Will they refund the money or should I just refuse to pay since I have no tickets in return.
Thanks.

Join the club, Minstrel! My card never works either - have the same result as you, except I don't have a charge in my bank statement from IRCTC. IRCTC will refund the money - usually there is a computer generated letter that will be sent to you in regard to the problem with contact details. You could contact them and say the charge has gone through and can they email the tickets.

So how do you make your reservations? An agent?

This gets curiouser and curiouser. The charge has now been removed. Back to a square one. Time to call somebody in India to make reservations.

Don't give up so quickly!

You can try
- another time
- another card
- another payment gateway (though I haven't booked recently and do not know which one works best these days)
- this new website (which is so new that I have no clue if it works at all)

But just one payment gone awry is really no reason to despair.

Happened to me last year, tried several times then just gave up in the end, my money was refunded each time. I found that you can book just as easy in india at an agent for an extra Rps 50 or even just get on the train and find an empty berth, we used to check the reservation lists on the side of the train and go straight to the unbooked berths and just pay the ticket guy when he comes along, they were all very helpful and tried to get us in first class each time. Hope your trip goes well. P

^^ dont count on the above method though. the train may not have any empty berths, unless you mean "3rd class" for day trips.

Singsub's right, Minstrel. Especially in busy season times. I end up going to the local agent everytime - just recently tried again because I now have a new card - didn't go either. There seems no reason for these failures when all is well with your card - it seems to be luck of the draw I'm afraid and very frustrating because you spend much time sorting out the booking details, finally get to the payment stage and nothing works.
Some members have had their hotel where they first arrive do their ticket bookings for them. This is a good idea - otherwise when you arrive either get an agent or go to the Foreigner Travel Bureau inside the main station of the city of arrival. Where are you flying into?

Yooohoooo....it worked. Okay, I read in one of the other threads that somebody else tried the Axis gateway earlier this month and it worked. After 3 charges (all promptly refunded) via the Citi Gateway and no tix to show for it, I tried the Axis gateway and got my tix.
Now, only 4 more sets of tix to go.

Are you sure your credit card company isn't just refusing a transaction from India? I tried booking through Travelguru, got refused but had the transaction (briefly) appear on my online account statement.
