Money paid and booking made but no ticket!
Ok, I know I did everything right when trying to book my e-tickets. I know this because I managed with very little trouble to book a trip earlier in the day (Mumbai to Udaipur) and received the confirmation details and the tickets quite promptly (a lucky occurence I gather).
With the second trip I tried to book (Bharatpur to Mumbai), the site seemed happy to take my payment but confirmed an error when it came to issuing the ticket. I kept trying again and again, and now, having checked my credit card statement, I see that I have been charged the full ticket price for each of those attempts. I'm not freaking out yet because I figure the amounts will be reversed in due course!Am I being naive? And why the hell won't my booking go through? I'm trying at the right time; I am not booking more than ten tickets at a time; there are berths available. Will patience win the day or must I try and contact them? |

Check "booked tickets" under "transactions" in your IRCTC-account. If you find your booking there, you can print your e-ticket now.
If you don't find it, the money will be credited back into the account of your credit card within a few days. The system does react like this if you have done anything "forbidden" like using the back button, changing the boarding point on an ordinary ticket or similar. It also does this whenever it suffers from PMS or has migraine attacks. From my experience it is usually quite civil soon after opening up for service in the early morning.

Thanks, that's a relief about the cash! What does "changing the boarding point on an ordinary ticket" mean? How do I know if I'm not on an ordinary ticket?
From what I can see on the booking form, there is a train available on the route I want. Surely that's enough. |

With "ordinary" I mean not a Tatkal ticket. And don't worry: you probably did not do anything extraordinary. It is just that you can do a few things the system will not accept and instead of telling you so, it may eat your money and not issue a ticket. Been there, done that. Got the money back, just like you will.
