Mind the Gap- On Delhi Metro

I recorded the Delhi Metro 'mind the gap' for all of you who are getting nostalgic about it. Though I must warn you my Nokia 6275 is not really great for audio, video or photography, but then something is really better than nothing or so I think.

I became aware of 'mind the gap' first time on the London Underground but I think the Delhi 'mind the gap' is much more mild in comparison What do you say?

Go to New Delhi (or Delhi Main) and record a 'late train' announcement, they're just hilarious......"the inconvenience caused is Deeply Regretted"

And then the Hindi health warning....."Prepare handkerchief"

Steve thanks. I will record the late train announcement for sure, that is a super suggestion. And I am traveling this weekend too! Can't figure out which health warning you are referring to though.

Kripya sounds like it may be the first word.

Every Hindi anouncement* on Indian Railways begins with 2 words that (when said together) sound very much like "Prepare handkerchief ", it always makes me smile.

*In the south, they seem to have a different recording, and the first 2 words (although the same) dont sound quite the same.

Dzibead, thanks. Yes, the pictures and the recording both is from my camera phone. I have for a limited time used N96 (on blogging offer for free) and though I will never shell out that kind of money it has a much better camera resolution and sound.

I have a lot of recordings from Indian Railway now. It will take a little while to make it youtube worthy but should I load it here only or start a new thread? I am quite reluctant to start new threads. Any opinions?

The recording on the Delhi Metro is a real pain for a daily commuter. It gets repeated ad nauseum, and the same things are gone through without even momentary silence. Things like:
The next station is Chandni Chowk, change here for the Delhi station of Indian Railways.
OK, fine, for the long distance traveler and the out-of-town visitors, who might get lost.
Doors will open on the right X 20 times
Please stand clear of the doors X 50 times
Give your seats for senior citizens etc, or something X 30 times
Of course, MIND THE GAP X 99 times
Repeat everything in Hindi, alternately
Thank heavens we are bilingual only, officially
If there is time between stations,
Beware of Pickpockets
Or look under your seats for bombs

Change here for the Blue/Red/Yellow line

Believe me, I've endured this, and its not funny...
A mute button, with premium ticket pricing..?

I didn't understand what the first part of the recording was about, but once she started on the familiar announcement of For the kind attention of the passengers ... I felt right at home!

I stayed in a hotel this last time in India in Midnapur, very near the station but very little other noise from traffic or the town. I could lie in bed hearing those announcements, it wasn't so loud that I couldn't sleep but it was great to wake up to her still making the announcements!

great photos too, I love those weighing machines that print out little cards with your weight, I have a collection from over the years and my weight hasn't been increasing too much Ah sure they're probably not completely accurate anyway

what are those fruits that look like eggs?

Julia I am glad you liked it. Now I am wondering where is Midnapur, it is West Bengal? I took most of the pictures at the night using flash on my mobile phone camera, so had to keep the hands quite steady. But the fruit picture is quite white because of the flash.

The fruit I googled, I know it is called rasbhari in Hindi and now I know that it is know as cape gooseberries in English.
