Meaning of information in IRCTC/Indian Railways availability query

Hi all,

I swear I searched the forums and articles for this info, with different search words and search modes, but I couldn't find the answer to my question...

The question is simple, actually. If I go to the IRCTC website and query the availability of a given ticket, I get the following answer:

Status Report
Serial No Date Status
1 5- Aug- 2009 AVAILABLE- 0002
2 6- Aug- 2009 WL 12/WL 12
3 7- Aug- 2009 WL 17/WL 17
4 8- Aug- 2009 AVAILABLE- 0007

So the question is: the number after an AVAILABLE status - is it simply the number of places available in the given class of the given train?

Thanks,

Marcos

Yes, it indicates the number of seats/berth in that class.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks, Rajered. So I guess I had better buy this ticket ASAP with such low numbers of seats/berths available, correct?

Always book early in Indian Railways ... cancellations cost very little (only Rs 60/- in A/C), a small amount to lose in case of change in plans considering the comfort of holding a confirmed reservation.

Try the following article.

http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...ays-waitlists/

Ignore the photos, I didn't put them there, it's kind of ironic that the 2 photos are the only 2 classes of accommodation that can't be booked (so won't have waitlists).

Had you indicated the Number of the Train and also the stations between which you desire to perform the journey, it would have helped us to know how fast the berths in the train selected would get booked between the Two Stations selected by you for journey.
