Marudhar Express: The Death Train?? Jaipur to Varanasi Train (

I was thinking of traveling between Jaipur to Varanasi for the "India Train Experience". It'll be the only time i'll be able to use the train on my trip. Recently someone had recently told me that the train area between Jaipur and Varanasi is somewhat lawless. I'm a 24 male traveling alone on this train ride, is this a safe trip to take? Any information would help, even alternative methods

Although it is true that areas of Eastern UP can be more lawless than others in India, if I were a 24 year old male, I wouldn't think twice about it.

Incidents are a good deal rarer than guidebooks would have us believe.

Travel by A/C class .If you get a ticket from the Tourist Quota then you'll be with other foreign travellers anyway.

Marudhar Expr is interesting because it is a rare connection from Tundla Junction towards Agra, while for a long trip it is rather slow.

I used 4864 with my girl-friend from Agra to Varanasi (AC3) on Feb 19th. In Varanasi I noticed that two guards with guns have walked train up and down.
By the way, we arived to Varanasi two hours behind schedule.

That's supposed to happen on every train, but I don't see it too often, maybe 1 in 6 or 7 trains.

This train has a reputation for being late, 2 hours would be a good result.

Oh no you wont.

That train was among a few others that were canceled for about a month last year, well, not canceled, just short terminated (Lucknow I think), this was because of the fog, and the fog situation is at it's worst from the middle of December till the middle of January.

If it is a moon-lit night you'll get a fantastic view of the Taj.
And BTW marudhar means "desert".

People talk a whole lot of FUD and crap about stuff when its much safer in reality. I drive that side overnight every few months (del-lko-del and typically beat the train excl stops
