Lightbulb lower berth quota

Hi, here is a question for solo women travelers over 45 travelling on the trains. Has anyone ever been able to make an e ticket reservation using lower berth quota (LD), or is this quota reserved for Indian nationals only?
Thanx for any advice here.

I've never asked for a lower, but on my last visit (at age 60) was given lower berths most of the time. When I wasn't given this, it was easy enough to swap with another passenger. Don't worry about it.

When are you going?

Lower berths are generally given automatically to Senior Citizens, i.e. anyone over 60. When booking you can specify you want a lower berth.

Wonderwomanusa, I am going December-January to visit some archaeological sites dating up to 5-7th c AD. The stops planned are Kolkata-Bhubaneswar-Srikakulam-Badami-Nasik-Aurangabad-Lonavala-Mumbai/Borivali-Bhuj/Dholavira- Ahmedabad/Lothal - Sanchi-Mathura--Delhi (just to fly out). I've planned 5 trips on sleeper trains, from Kalkata it's either Puri express or HwH-Mas mail, then Konark express, Amaravati express, Goa express, Kutch express, and VRL-JBP. I'm used to long distance buses, but thought the trains may be better for these trips. I was thinking of a midway rest break in Agonda or Patnem, otherwise it's a fairly solid itinerary of sites and museums.

I'll be in some of those same places (and probably some of those same trains) but am staring in Kolkata mid-October. Was hoping we could run into one another ...

Wonderwomanusa, sounds good, how long are you traveling around? I should be leaving Vijayawada for Badami by 28 December, and from there to Goa. If you're in the area around those dates, it would be fun to meet up.

The Amaravati express and Goa express will book out fast for dates around Christmas & new year, so book well in advance.

The line from Gadag to Badami should be opening soon.

Wonderwoman

I couldn't help noticing that you used "Indian lingo" in your last post ("....to receive same") As I am settling in after 27 years in Canada and the US, I am re-learning the Indian way of verbal dialogue (e.g. when giving a phone #, saying "triple 5" rather than the western 555; one reads notices by say, the Deputy Registrar of IIT-KGP that goes "The undersigned hereby notifies....."; in another "office order", the last sentence ends with ".......please do the needful"). Absolutely hilarious.

Do we have a thread for "Indian English words & phrases"? I believe we do and "I shall look for the same"

Btw, I sent you an e-mail about my plans during Durga Puja. After the holidays I have to go to Kolkata "on tour", the Jadavpur area.

Cheers
