Likelyhood of clearing the Waitlist ?

my wife & I are on the waiting list on the #2916 train
from Jaipur to Ajmer on 19 November. status shows less
than 5 people on the list (if I read the way the WL numbers
show up correctly). 1st class has fewer WL numbers than
the other classes, so that seems like the way to go.

are we likely to get onto the train ? We're in Delhi
thru the 14th (and I've provided the hotel address there
for delivery of tickets) but when do the wait-listed
tickets get determined/processed ? if it happens after
we're gone from Delhi we're perhaps in a bit of a bind.

it's not clear from my initial review of the online
reservation system how one checks to see if one has
cleared the waitlist.

the train we'd planned to take based on reading the tables
(the #9651) is apparently no longer running or available on
that date.

You'll move to RAC probably, first. Which means you might get to sit but not get a berth in First Class.

The order is WL--> RAC(Reservations Against Cancellations)--> Confirmed.

Though the waiting list in 1st class is smaller, so is the number of berths which translates into a slightly smaller chance of a cancellation working in your favour!!

Where does 2916 start it's journey? (North of Delhi - Forget it)

Does First Class (AC) have RAC? I really don't know, but I doubt it, where would they sit?

Waitlists are MUCH, MUCH less likely to come down in First Class (AC), there are far fewer berths, so less people to cancel.

A taxi from Door to Door would be cheaper than First Class (AC).

(9651?), there's a 'Berealy - Bhuj' Express on this route that runs only 3 days a week (or mayby 4), mayby thats the train you were hoping to get.

go on checking with the PNR no. printed on the right hand corner of your ticket on the on-line reservation system (PNR status).

If there are less than 5 people in the waiting before you, you might have a chance but remember cancellations at first class are few. so, it is 50-50.

the final reservation chart is prepared at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. if you are in Delhi, can go to the Railway Station and make enquiries. if possible, visit the station master to see if he can help you anyway.

Moreover, Jaipur to Ajmer is not so much of a distance. You can also move by road. there will be plenty of transport - buses or cars.

The distance from Jaipur to Ajmer is just 136 Kms. For such a short distance, it is quite surprising as to why you have chosen 2916 Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, supposed to be a crowded train. Schedule isw given below:-
