Konkan Railway

I have heard about the train between Mumbai and Mangalore being picturesque as it goes thru the western ghats. What I would like to know is which stretch of this jouney is most scenic. You see, the train timing is such that half the journey is during the night.
Actually I want to travel only half the distance, i.e either from Mumbai to Madgaon or Mangalore to Madgaon. Both ways the train schedule is such that u lose out most of the time in the night.
Can someone who has traveled by this route tell me which part of the journey is most beautiful, so I can decide.

yeah most of the timings are not very convinient for the view. in case if you want the whole journey try out the day train janahatabdi express from mumbai to madgoana and the verna passenger from madgoan to managalore.
the entire western ghats from mumbai to kanyakumari is very picturesque
