Kolkata-Darjeeling (New Jalpaiguri) by day train?

Should we consider taking a daylight train to NJP from Kolkata? Are there interesting things to see? A year ago I enjoyed the views during daytime train trips from Dehli to Amritsar and Goa to Mumbai.
Thank you.
Diane

You can consider if you like the green landscapes of Bengal passing by, especially in and after monsoon, lush greenaries dotted by patches of water bodies, shining with life.

There are two trains:

5657 Kanchenjunga Express (Daily), departs Sealdah (Kolkata) at 6:45 and reaches NJP at 18:20 & 2503 Superfast Sealdah-NJP Express departs Sealdah at 9:05 and reaches NJP at 19:00 but runs only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

The 2503 is day running train and tickets are given 10 days in advance.

I must confess that I don't understand the 10-day booking thing, I've seen it mentioned many times including on Indian Railways own website, but I've never found a train that can only be booked 10 days in advance.

I've found a few daytime, short distance trains that can only be booked 30 days in advance, but never 10 days, am I missing something?

Are a certain percentage of seats held back for the last 10 days?

I've just checked and 2503 can be booked 60 days in advance, though the number of seats available looks too small.

16- 9-2007- CC = 32, 2S = 157

They say the day running trains which have only seating chair cars (no sleeper facility) can be booked 10 days in advance, excluding the date of journey. Cant help if they break their own rules. Even this rule does not apply for the Shatabdi Expresses. Even if you travel by toy trains like the NJP-Darjeeling and Kalka-Shimla (all day running), I have found that they can be booked 60 days in advance, excluding the date of journey. I am also confused about the rules.

Amazing, I must check more trains to look for similar booking restrictions, thanks for the info.

Is there any particular reason these trains have 7 and 10 day booking limits?

I started a thread on IRFCA about trains with 30-day booking limits (I used my girlfriend's name as I forgot my password), but only one person replied.
