LOL I was under the impression you were sitting around on some railway platform there trying to figure out what is your next move...

Don't worry you'll be fine.

Made it to Mysore

Just wanted to let you know that I went from waiting list to RAC to confirmed on that sleeper! And, had the joys of cancelling the ticket booked for the next day. Honestly, it really was a hoot! Had quite a few chuckles along the way and survived my first experience of the Chennai station. Yippee!

So, thanks again for all your help. Most appreciated!

Now, I am seriously considering moving to Mysore. Such incredible beauty here. Oh my. But, won't happen. Oh well. Pity, but there you have it ... the lure of the almighty dollar does tend to woo us, doesn't it?

Nice 1 Lotus... Glad you made it!

I remember sitting on a Mysore terrace at night with fruit bats flying over and my life back home taking some turns behind my back that I didn't particularly like and thinking oh screw it this is where I'll stay... well I tend to think that in a lot of places I end up in.

Enjoy!

Ah, Machadinha, I can tell by your description that you know what I'm talking about when I wish I could move to Mysore. This place does seem to bring out the poetry in one, doesn't it? And, if things were going rotten for you at the time, at least you still had mystery of Mysore to sustain you. Besides, you know as well as I do, that every rotten thing that ever happens to us, truly IS for the best--at least that's been my experience. Cheers.

Hmmm yes speaking of poetry I wrote a lengthy letter that same night to a dearly beloved one describing my feelings and my general getting-to-terms with the universe no matter how rotten it may be or something, you know the idea.

Mysore I liked yes, not even in a very special way but just... I liked it like I did a lot of places, despite my having the you-know-what when I was there + having to duck for the bathroom every other second. It was on the lonelier stretch of my trip and I never regretted one second of it. Not being able to speak to anyone for a week or longer tends to get psychedelic though (educational as well in that the world just keeps turning even if you don't comment on it I might add) but Mysore is hardly that far off the beaten track.

Again... enjoy, the adventure is just beginning I take it. Keep a diary for us all, just bits + pieces you know.

I love the internet. It allows me to get a confirmed ticket without moving off my seat. But seeing off relatives/friends at stations has never been a good experience. Somehow they never come around to understand why I make a beeline to to the locomotive or the trip sheds. I have to wait until their train moves out to check out the station scene.

Just to let you'll know that come monsoon and all trains running on the Konkan railway will have their speeds regulated. There would be a 2-3 hrs additional running time. Timings of departure & arrival have been changed.
Refer to monsoon time table at www.konkanrailway.com

Your happiness may not last very long! Or at least will be subdued a bit.

At last the railways have invented it!!!
Why our platforms are so crowded? It’s not the passengers but the ‘see off mob’ (I mean all the aunties and uncles and neighbors and cousins and … ) that suffocates the platforms.

Admission to the platform to be restricted only to the passengers (something like in the airports). Mumbai (CST) has already done it. Many busy and large stations would follow the suit.

Anyway the platform ticket from 1 June onwards will cost Rs5 from the current Rs3.

I read about the platform ticket price increase in the Asian Age newspaper, the article also said that New Delhi station sells between 30,000 & 50,000 platform tickets a day.
