At the outset, please avoid typing in capital letters. If the train has left, you need to file TDR. There would be an option on the left side called "FILE TDR". It needs to be done within 30 days of the date of journey which you had not undertaken. Indian Railways takes about 90 days to process. Refund will be automatically credited to the account through which you paid for the ticket booking. |

I had to look up the PMSL myself; apparently, it's a web abbreviation for p*ssing myself laughing.
I guess Scot was just toying around with you; I can't say I'm very sure why either, but never mind, right ![]() I believe there are some limitations on luggage transport in the higher classes yes; I suppose in that case there'd probably be some storage space or something (and it would probably just affect really oversized stuff). There's always a luggage van if needs be (which will probably require you to arrive a little in time to arrange to have your stuff put in there though. Or discuss it as you're acquiring your ticket, or pass by the station some time before to ask, or something.) I can't tell you, I've never traveled in those classes; I know it's been discussed before on this board (and so it is in fact a reasonable question), so you could try and search around for it some more (or someone who knows may yet be in). In any case, I'd be very surprised if anything would be even allowed on the roofs there You could have a look at the Indian Railways' luggage rules, maybe it will tell you more: http://www.indianrail.gov.in/rules_for_luggage.html. From a quick glance there, limitations as usual would seem to be more than a little reasonable.

Thanks for the quick reply machadinha.
I am pretty sure that a few cases for 5 travellers isnt a big deal. Hopefully, i wont get hassled for it. Like i say ive travelled before with suitacases on trains, but that was in the standard class. Ahh well i can only go there and find out. thanks |

I suppose with average luggage for an average passenger (who wants to carry 40-50 kilos anyway?! Unless you're moving house or have a family to feed or clothe at your destination or something. Which I suppose is indeed what some folks do, and why those limitations -- again, more than generous you'd think -- are there in the first place) it should be alright yes.
I do think I've read about how in those higher classes (and perhaps notably the seater-only classes), it's not just about weight but about dimensions as well yes. It needs to fit under your seat or something, or possibly overhead or whatever. Still, I can't imagine they'd leave your luggage behind; so maybe just arrive a little in time then to make use of the luggage van if needs be. Again though, with a standard pack or suitcase I would be surprised if it would be any real problem. There must be zillions of Indians traveling around in those classes, all carrying more than just their toothbrush. |

PCBaba, you can take your suitcase provided it doesn't contain any "illegal" item... infact, though there is some restriction on the weights, they are hardly checked.

The porter will put your suitcase on the roof, give him a generous tip for taking the trouble. Be careful, to secure it tightly, or else when the train goes through one of those tunnels, they may get knocked off. Cheers Nattusbs |

I honestly don't think I've seen any luggage going on any train roofs on plenty a train ride on my last trip earlier this year (nor on many a train ride about a decade to a decade and a half ago, for that matter), nor even any passengers I don't think; and all I hear is even the latter, so passenger travel up there, has been severely discouraged and restricted in more recent years, for all the obvious reasons. And again I don't see any A/C passengers clambering up there, nor allow their luggage to be stowed up there, anyway. Come on, these are rates on a par with air travel you're paying, not some outdated Bollywood or orientalist flic you've just ended up in. |

Sorry baba & mach I said it in jest. Take a while to read through threads on India Mike about luggage baba but, there isn't much space for luggage in the Ac like what we have in the uk, re; luggage racks at the end of the carriage and maybe space between seat-backs. The only options are either to secure a rucksack size bag under the bottom seat or take small, soft luggage up onto the higher bunks. But I am thinking of the night trains rather than day Ac. Hope this helps a bit. The only other option would be the luggage van.

Yes you can take it. Only thing is it should not be too big bcoz under the lower seat is the only space to keep belongings. I guess, to fit in there, suitcase should not be broader then 20 centimeters. |
