Just make sure you're flights are into and out of the right airports, they don't need to be the same airports, fares can be very flexable, flying into Mumbai or Delhi, and out of the other one can be just as cheap as flying in and out of the same airport. |

Overwhelmed
Incredible amount of information here. I've been reading for hours. I'm planning an upcoming trip to India. Given time restraints, my wife and I will be meeting in Delhi and then traveling in Rajasthan and will spend a day in Agra. Since my wife gets carsick I'm trying to concentrate on trains.
I was going to make Agra a day trip from Delhi but now I'm thinking we could go to Agra for the day and then train from there to Jaipur. I have to look at connections. We will go to Jaipur and to Udaipur and possibly Jodhpur but I think Jaisalmer is out of the question since we have only 9 to 10 days. I'm going to do some more research today and will get back here to ask for advice. |

Jaisalmer V Udaipur, absolutely no competition, Jaisalmer wins.
Train 2002, New Delhi 06:15, Agra Cant 08:07. Train 2988, Agra Fort 18:20, Jaipur 22:20. (Calls at Agra Cant at 17:40 in case you keep your luggage at the station) Train 4059, Jaipur 23:57, Jaisalmer 13:00. Jaisalmer to Jodhpur (daytime or short overnight journey) Train 2462, Jodhpur 19:30, Old Delhi 06:25. Train 4060, Jodhpur 22:30, Old Delhi 11:05. |

You don't have a choice of stations, not for these trains.
New Delhi is next door to Paharganj, and a 5 minute rickshaw from Connaught place. Old Delhi is about 20 minutes from Paharganj by Rickshaw and 25 from Connaught place. Longer if at a busy time of day. |

Itinerary Idea
Steven,
Wow! Thanks for the reply. What do you think about an itinerary that would start with a flight from Delhi to Jodhpur. We would then make our way to Jaisalmer from there, spend 2 days in Jaisalmer, and begin to make our way back east: 2 days in Jodhpur, 2 days in Jaipur, and then 2 days in a town near Jodhpur (I have to look up the name). Followed by a train back to Delhi for our departure. Our departure from Delhi is at 12:55 AM! If I get a train into Delhi the previous day (the previous day meaning an hour earlier - though we'd arrive in the afternoon or evening) am I asking for trouble? How far is it from the train to the airport? Should I just plan on spending another night in Delhi to negate any risk? |

Couple of questions
Is there bag storage at any of the train stations? Jaipur for example?
Also, what berth is recommended? Upper? Side upper? What's the difference? (i was looking in 2ac) For a couple what configuration would u recommend? |
