reservation ticket

Hi there,

Please help me in this question?

I have made e reservation for 4 person in the 2dn class and the ticket put this:

Seat No/Berth:
0016/UB
0017/SL
0018/SU
0005/SL
Adult: 4Child: 0

Anyone can tell me what does it means? The personwho has the number 05 will be not with us? And would be possible, once in the train, change the berth with another person? what is UB SL SU SL, ARE WE IN THE SAME COMPARTMENTS?

The numbers refer to the berth number.

UB== Upper Berth
SL== Side lower
SU==Side Upper

Of course, these refer to where the person would sleep at night.

It looks as if you have got a pair of side berths (upper and lower) together, with an adjacent upper berth just accross the corridor, and poor berth No 5 nearby but a couple of compartments away...

When you say 2nd do you really mean 2nd class, or 2AC; there is a big difference!

You can ask people to change: sometimes they will, occasionally they won't. You can ask the TTE (Tavelling Ticket Examiner) to try and chnge the seats around --- for which he will expect "thanks"

Have just booked on the Ashram Express DLI to JP in November. My PNR status shows CNF but offers no coach/seat/berth numbers. I think read somewhere else the berths are allocated nearer the time of the train departure date - is that true and how near, does anyone know?

Great thread, lots of brill info.

Cheers

WB.

There can be a few reasons....

If traveling First Class Air Con (or First Class non air con), the berths will be decided in the hours before a train departs. (there are lots of reasons for this)

Most other classes will give a CNF reservation if another carriage is to be added to the train before it departs.

Hello,

Note your PNR No. in the ticket. It's located at the top of the right side of the ticket printout.

Use this PNR to check the status online here http://www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_stat.html

Do it a few days later. Some times they assign the seat numbers as the cancellations happen. Anyway it will be updated when the chart is prepared at the end of reservation time.

PNR- Passenger Name Record

Hope that'll put you in control

When you get to the train, got the 1A carriage and see the list pasted outside the carriage door: your name and berth number will be there.

The train reservation charts are put up on a board near the center of the platform usually neat the entrance. You can check your bogey, seat and birth numbers along-side your name on the charts.

Adding the following to any thread I can think of to avoid repeat questions.

I-Ticket = book on the net, have it delivered to an address in India, a hotel or travel agent for example, you can no longer pick these tickets up at the station.

E-Ticket = Book on the net, then print the ticket on your home computer.

Advance reservations.

Most tickets can only be booked 60 days in advance, a few tickets can only be booked 30 days in advance. (Some Intercity and daytime, short distance trains)

Opening times for train bookings.

Booking through Internet is allowed from 5 AM to 11.30 PM (IST)
23:30 - 18:00 GMT
