Hi. We intend to travel on the Kalka mail from Delhi to Kalka. This will be our 1st rail journey in India so plan to travel AC1.
We our not sure if the train will be a little tired. For example not having any clean bedding or water, could the toilets be a little challenging. Any help or advise much appreciated. From Passion for trains and boats that plane |

Kalka Mail train state
Thank you so much from your reply. Will take your advice regarding bottled water, but will there be enough water on the train to flush toilets, as we will be traveling on the 2nd night of the train.

... I fear you're in for a rude shock.
There is no question of enough water because the toilets don't flush. There is a just a hole onto the tracks. Unless AC1 has different toilets than everyone else... I've traveled 2 tier & 3 tier AC a lot and never had complaints about the bedding though. Usually a small pillow, 2 sheets, and a heavy blanket. The sheets are washed after each use. I'm not sure about the blanket. There should be touts coming thru selling bottled water, or there are lots of places at the train station to get water. |

There is a flushing mechanism in all AC classes (can't remember for non AC classes), but it doesn't work well.
The Kalka mail stays at Delhi Jn station for about 80 minutes, so all water and other things will be replenished. |
