Jodhpur to Udaipur
Hi guys. I just wanted to ask if there was a train going from Jodhpur to Udaipur. I can't find it on the indian train website. I know that there are tons of thread on trains in Rajasthan, but i cannot find the answer to this question. Thanks a lot in advance

no there isnt...
yuu got to take a train to marwar and then break journey and change into another train that goes to udaipur. best would be to take a bue to udaipur from jodhpur... preferrably a night journey bus.. so that way you would "lose time" ( ie.. spend one full day travelling instead of sight-seeing) for train routes.... http://mapsofindia.com/maps/wildlife...hyapradesh.htm for road routes.... http://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/raja...sthanroads.htm |

I think that i,m gonna go for the bus. Like you said, it will leave me more time to admire india. Plus as i will be going for a 4 months trip in india and will nearly always on trains, might be good to change. I got another question for you if you can answer it. I've been scratching my head as how to go in the bandhavgahn national park. I will be leaving from patna. I can't seem to find a good route. Any ideas?

Following info taken from the 'Train Information' thread.
Quote:
Bengal Tiger, did you find the road journey comfortable? I've heard it can be very bumpy and unsuitable for overnight travel, though I myself have not done the journey. There seems to be many people wanting to do this journey, I think a few end up hiring a car & driver, if only some of these people could get together and share the cost of a car & driver.

well i did a whole journey....
delhi-bikaner-jaisalmer-jaisalmer-jodhpur-udaipur-chitore-jaipur-delhi all by an a.c. car.....so on the road yes, but not bus see??... nice small car smooth ride... yes rajasthan roads not bad... at least viv.a.vis roads in bihar and other indan states. if money isnt much of a problem.. i'd suggest he opt for a "volvo" type "luxury a.c. coach".. that way the journey will be comfortable... volvo buses have "sleeping" berths.. so he will sleep too... and they are reputed to do a good job of "shock absorbtion" on the road too !! should be about the price of travelling jodhpur-udaipur by ac III tier train (had there been such a train .. alas there isnt.) P.S: did you go throo my mail regarding my "mistake"... ? |

well patna isnt the right place to start a journey for bandhavgahn national park if you ask me.
i'd advise you to take a night train journey ( for same "time saving" reasons) to allahabad then you can take a bus or hired car to your destination... go here....http://mapsofindia.com/maps/wildlife...hyapradesh.htm have a look at bhandavgarh.. then clck on the "bihar" portion of the map... then the "uttar pradesh" porton of the BIHAR map..... you have to take National Highway 7 from allahabad i believe.... have a look at this site for possible exit points to bhandavgarh. http://www.indiawildlifesafaris.com.. .andhavgarh.html patna-allahbad trans are here.. http://www.trainenquiry.com/TrainsBe...LLAHABAD+-+ALD cheers !! |

Patna to Bandhavgarh national park.
On Sundays (train 1038) & Wednesdays (train 9050) a train departs Patna Junction at 22:45 and gets to Katni at 09:15 the next morning. 2 tier air con = Rs 1085 3 tier air con = Rs 697 Sleeper class = Rs 258 (not air con) There is a daily train, but not as well timed. Train 3201 departs Patna Jn daily at 23:20 and gets to Katni the following day at 14:15. 2 tier air con = Rs 1108 3 tier air con = Rs 712 Sleeper class = Rs 263 There are no conveniently timed trains from Katni to Umaria (closest train station to Bandhavgarh) I've just read in another post that Katni is a 2.5 hour drive from Bandhavgarh national park. |

Cool. Thanks to both of you. I cannot stress how this is helpfull, especially in the case of Bandhavgarh national park. This one is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
Moreover, i find that there is many changes of trains/bus for quite a small journey. Now with these informations, my plan is amost finished. This roundtrip of india is gonna be a hell of a four months. thanks a lot dudes. |

If you're doing the Jodhpur-Udaipur route, you might think of breaking it by going Jodhpur-Mt Abu-Udaipur. I did that in 1999 (was in Abu overnite for the turn of the millenium) and it worked well. The Jain temples in Abu are seriously worth it.
