Jan Shatabdi Express/2071 for going to Shirdi

Hi all,

Never taken the train route to Shirdi and hence exploring the option of going to Shirdi by Train, since Shatabdi's are always punctual and take in the views near Igatpuri. Can i take the Jan Shatabdi Express/2071 for going to Shirdi by geeting dowm at Manmad Junction and taking a private taxi from there.

thanks for ur reply

Thanks delhiwala,

When i checked the IRCTC website and got Jan Shatabdi Express/2071 details, at first i was a bit skeptic because inspite of being just a 4.30 hrs train + 1 hr road journey to Shirdi it is not very popular and nobody recommends it and hence was worried that i may be chosen a wrong station or so... ur reply helps..

Last time I travelled there 6 months back, Manmad - Shirdi road has been made silky smooth and now it's a nice journey !

I agree earlier it was a very bad experience !

Dear Travelmonk,

##If you are interested to perform train journey+Road from Mumbai to Shird, the best option is take the following train upto Nasik Road:
---------
7617 TAPOVAN EXPRESS 27/07/2009 MUMBAI CST MON TUE WED THU FRI SAT SUN

SNo Stn Code Stn Name Route No. Arrival Time Dep. Time Distance Day Remark
1 CSTM MUMBAI CST 1 Source 06:10 0 1
2 DR DADAR 1 06:23 06:25 9 1
3 TNA THANE 1 06:48 06:50 34 1
4 KYN KALYAN JN 1 07:05 07:10 54 1
5 IGP IGATPURI 1 08:53 08:55 137 1
6 DVL DEVLALI 1 09:33 09:35 182 1
7 NK NASIK ROAD 1 09:48 09:50 188 1
---------------
##The Road distance from Nasik to Shirdi is around 85Kms. This is an excellent road. There are plenty of buses/taxis.

##Normally, the buses coming from Mumbai used to travel via Igatpuri, Ghoti, Nasik, Sinnar and then Shirdi.

##Very recently, a new route has been developed between Ghoti and Sinnar, by which the total distance has come down
by 15 Kms. This short-cut is taken by those who prefer to skip Nasik-traffic and a visit to Trayambakeshwar, and who are in urgency to visit "Aarti" in Shirdi.

##I once again reiterate, there is absolutely no need for you to travel upto Manmad, unless you have a work to attend in Manmad.

##You will be interested to know that the Trainb distance from Nasik to Manmad is 73Kms., and the road distance from Manmad to Shirdi is around 45Kms., whereas the direct road distance from Nasik to Shirdi is 85Kms.

They are there. Time taken is around 11hrs 35 min. The OP wants to reach Shirdi sooner than that.

Thanks to all for all your help, however, as much as i love to travel by train i will be not be doing the train journey since from what i understand the return lag of the journey from Nashik is a bit painfull since no trains originate from Nashik and there is problem to make people move your reserved seat even if the seat is reserved.

Exploring options to travel by owm Car or Hire car... any suggestions are welcome.

thanks in advance

You can go to Shirdi by Jan Shatabdi and while coming catch the MSRTC Semi Deluxe bus from there. There are two semi deluxe from Shridi to Mumbai Central one at 08:30 and the other at 10:30. Travel time would be around 7 hrs.

For accommodation Sai Baba Sansthan's accommodation are good and economical and there are many options. You can check this link for different types of accommodation and tarriff. http://www.shrisaibabasansthan.org/m...ommodation.asp

You can book them at Shri Sai Baba Sansthan, Shirdi 'Sai Niketan', 804-B, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Dadar, Mumbai 400014 Tel: 022-24161293

I had a tough time going to Shirdi and getting the Sansthan's room. Had to stay at the Dharamsala which is like a dormitary with common baths and toilets. Lockers are provided to keep your luggage. Cost Rs 50/- per person.
