It is when I get to this point on the IRCTC reservation site that I start wanting to stab either my computer or my debit card. Why won't it work?? I read elsewhere in these forums that Citibank was the best option to go for when booking an e-ticket from abroad, without an Indian bank account. I have both a UK Solo and Maestro debit card which I have tried using. I enter my card number and expiry date, click submit.... the site asks me to enter my debit card number. This is happening over and over again.

What am I doing wrong?

I used AXIS, it worked for me but it was with a UK Visa credit card, not a debit card, so maybe that's the problem.

I think it only works with credit cards.

You can use a debit card only if its issued by an Indian institution. If not, using a credit card and AXIS payment gateway is the best option.

I got one specifically for this trip, it's so easy and will make booking trains possible. Some would say that you'll be safer with a credit card than a debit card, if you suffer any problems, as you can cancel your credit card easier than switching your bank account.

If not, then get your friend or parents to do it for you.

Choose the Axis gateway when you get to payment options, then enter your credit card info.

Weird! My Natwest Maestro card will absolutely not work. Were you using Axis?

To overcome my frustrations anyway, my dear old Dad offered me the use of his credit card, BUT.... there's another but. The Axis gateway does not appear to be secure - there's no little padlock showing up anywhere on my browser, and there's no way I want to risk entering someone else's details onto a site that is not secure.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I think if it's a debit card tied into a credit card (Nationwide Visa) it will work. If it's a debit card from a foreign bank, it won't.

How did people log in to AXIS when they don't actually bank with them?

I tried my log in details for the site but that didn't work. I have a credit card so was trying to go down the AXIS route that others have managed but i couldn't get past the log in screen, any suggestions?
