IRCTC refunding credit card

Due to "communication problems" between the irctc and bank sites I have been charged on my credit card quite a few times when I have not been assigned a ticket. In some (but nowhere near all) cases I received an email explaining this, giving me the reservation number and saying that if the credit card has been charged the payment will be refunded shortly.

Has anyone had a similar experience? How long did it take for the refunds to come through? What should I do about the charges that were made but I received no email and hence no reservation number. Any help would be appreciated.

hi yoda,
something similar happened to me too. IRCTC charged a wrong fare on my credit card bill (even if the spread wasn't so high), I wrote a complaint e-mail to their customer assistance service and, although nobody replied, after 3 or 4 days they refunded the wrong amount.
I wonder it's been good luck or not.
bye max

IRCTC once refunded me for booking the ticket and wrongly opting for a collection at New Delhi while I was at Bangalore. That was three years ago. I guess you will be refunded.
...and I took the road less travelled.

If you are not refunded, can't you duspute the transaction with your credit card issuer?

The same thing happened to me last week. I was refunded within 3 business days but less than the original charge! There was only 70 pence difference which I guess is the FX difference between Sterling and Rupee on the two days. I wonder if the Rupee strengtens against Sterling you get more.....

This happened to me about three times while booking tickets and the refund was received within a day or two. There was some fluctuation due to the exchange rate, but not enought to worry about.

Thanks guys. I have now worked out that there are four extra charges on my credit card. Today I received emails for three of them saying that they will be re-credited. This is great news and a relief, but what should I do about the final one (which happens to be the first payment). My thinking is that I should dispute this with my credit card company, but only after I have actually been to India. That way, I might get my money back and there is no chance that Indian railways will cancel my other tickets by accident. What do you think?

If it was only £5 I would probably forget it but it is £13 so is worth at least a nights accommodation for two.
