I have been using an IRCTC account (say first account) which was created last year around this time till now. Recently, I reached limit for the number of transactions per month (ie., 10) and as such created a new IRCTC account (say second account) to book more tickets. I have used same passwords for both the accounts. I think I have used almost same information for both the accounts.

Here is the problem rather a series of problems.

Suddenly I was unable to access my first account in spite of typing in the correct password. The same thing happened with the second account. Also, a couple of tickets I have booked using these accounts got cancelled automatically (I did not cancel these tickets but I got the cancelled ticket e-mail). I tried using the password recovery form for the second account but was unable to reset the password in spite of answering the secret question correctly. I could not remember the secret question for my first account clearly but nevertheless tried all the questions with various answers but I was not successful in resetting my password. I have already contacted care@irctc.co.in regarding this issue concerning both my accounts. They have however responded back only to my first account query and that too is a general response asking me to go to the password recovery page (as if we do not know ). While typing this message in this forum I got a doubt that my accounts may have been suspended by IRCTC. So, I used the sign up form and checked for the availability of the user ids(both my first and second account ids) and to my horror the system said that they are available. Just out of curiosity I tried signing up again using these old ids but when I clicked the submit button the system returned an error saying that user already exists. I do not know whether I should be happy or not after seeing this.

Anyways, I have a few important tickets booked using my first account and is there anyway I can still retrieve them without loosing them?

I am extremely sorry about the long message, but I wanted to provide you guys with all the details that may be important.

Would be glad if you can tell me what could the problem be and will look forward to your suggestions.

Don't be sorry, all the detail is vital in this kind of question.

I'm not sure if anyone will be able to offer useful advice, unless someone's had exactly the same problem.

The first thing I thought was, do they (IRCTC) suspect you may be a travel agent?

Your canceled tickets, did IRCTC cancel them before the journey date? was it a 'special' train that has since been canceled?

Your other tickets, have you checked the PNR to see their status?

I have booked two 3 tier AC tickets (one from vijayawda to Bangalore and the other one for the return journey) using my first account and since both the tickets were waitlisted to be safe I have booked two sleeper class tickets for the same trains. However, I booked one SL ticket using the first account and then used the second account to book the second SL ticket. Both the SL tickets (these were the last tickets I have booked using both the accounts) have been cancelled. Luckily both my 3 AC tickets are intact and both of them are currently in WL/1 status in GNWL quota. I intend to take up this journey in during the May 21-24 time frame.

The details of the trains are Train 7211 from BZA to YPR on 21/5/2010 and Train 0804 from SBC to BZA on 24/5/2010

Have the same doubts as Steven, and this is the first time I am hearing of such a situation. Try booking the tickets using www.cleartrip.com

Its a tricky situation. I am also hearing this for the first time.

The indications are clear that your account has been disabled by IRCTC and hence the tickets booked also will be blocked.

Did you try calling the helpline.

With Warm Regards

Yes. I have already contacted them but the customer service is too slow. My line dropped about 3 times before I could explain the situation. I asked them to issue me a new password and send it to my registered email. She told me to wait till 24 hrs. I am just waiting for some sort of answer.

Ok. Here is the update. I have talked with the customer care representative just now. It seems IRCTC has permanently blocked both my accounts. As I have mentioned, I used same information for both the accounts and that is what has led to this problem. The customer care representative has however sent me the 3 AC tickets to me by e-mail. She also said that IRCTC cancelled my SL tickets. I will have to create a new account now.

Thanks for the update.

If 2 people are traveling, then each can have their own accounts, otherwise, extra tickets would have to be booked using cleartrip.

Thanks Steven for letting me know about using cleartrip. I did not know about it earlier until jusmail mentioned it and after you have mentioned it again I feel that it can be used by me whenever I am over the 10 tickets quota per month.

Good to hear that you got the tickets issued (Although not all of them)

I am damn sure, you will be doubly careful in future.

I've never used cleartrip, but most people don't seem to have any problems with it.

Yes, I will be more careful by not providing the correct details to irctc . I might use cleartrip instead of having issues with irctc.

Hmmm... You set out to break their rules, and you didn't even bother to be subtle about it. Sounds more like they are having issues with you!

I did not break any rules. I just created one more account which many people usually do. The only thing here is I used same information for both the accounts (I was just trying to be honest).
After the talking with the customer support people, the lesson learnt is, do not use same information for creating additional accounts with IRCTC.

OR, as I have already mentioned, instead having all these issues with IRCTC, one can simply use cleartrip.com
