wondering if anyone can help? i am trying to book 2 tickets from varanasi (mgh) to kolkata (hwh) train no 2312 on 10th may. it all seems fine until you get to the end and 1A is available. after the payment details have gone through i get this message.

"1.Communication Failure.

2.Berth Allocation could not be met.

3.Compact Accommodation Request not met.

4.Opening day booking (90 days in advance/ less than 90 days in advance for some trains) is not permitted before 08.00 A.M."

it does look like the booth preference might be a problem? i really don't care where we sit so have tried a few different options but keep getting the same message.

would love to hear from anyone who can help thanks

Communication Failure is when your internet connection with IRCTC server breaksdown.

Regarding timing issue, please ensure that you are booking as per Indian Standarad Time (IST).

Online Bookings are from 8 AM - 8 PM IST.

thanks delhiwala.
i was trying in the right time period though.
also i don't think there was any problem with the internet connection.
do you think it might have been from the irctc end??

Not so sure about that. After all... why should our connection break down?

Neither am I sure about this, but here goes:

IRCTC sells tickets on behalf of Indian Railways. All the data actually comes from the railways. This means that the IRCTC system has to connect with and communicate with the railways system. This is the bit they don't seem to have built too well, hence... Communication errors!

May be Nick is right. IRCTC Server many times fail while making payment also (again a third party is involved here). Many a times payment gets debited but no ticket is booked, specially if one is not on Broadband.

It's true that IRCTC has this annoying issue of 'connection break down'. In the past 4-5 yrs I've booked IRCTC i-tickets online. Here are the things that i follow. May be it'll help you out.
- Time to book e/i - ticket: 5:00 - 23:30 Hrs IST , but you said you were in the applicable time range.
- There are few options when you book your tickets, such as choice of berth, same coach(for multiple tickets) and others. I'd suggest book your tickets without using any of those conditions.
- Payment gateway: This is the main culprit in my case. If i choose VISA, Citi,Amex etc then I always get the connection error. Try using AXIS Bank Payment gateway. That appears to do the trick. Also make sure that before using Axis bank payment gateway, your own credit/debit card has an additional layer of security (user name & password for online transactions).

Hope this helps.

You are absolute right.
But please note that you do not get the AXIS gateway option when you use the Quick booking option.

still not working!

this is ongoing!
i really appreciate all of your comments and very detailed help.
i have tried again through the axis pg and it the error message still comes up after i have entered the visa details.
it is the same message i posted earlier when i paid with amex.
i tried without selecting a booth but it makes me enter a preference.
also still within the right time frame.
is there anything else i can do?? is there any other way i can book?
thanks again

Hi Natti,
I tried to recreate your reservation from Mughalsarai (MGS) to Kolkata (HWH). At the time of booking there was only 1 seat available in the 1st AC class. You have mentioned that you need 2 tickets. I looked in this forum to find out whether RAC is issued for a 1st AC booking since you need 2 tickets against 1 available. And looks like there is no RAC in 1st AC. Hence the error. Someone with 1st AC booking experience may shed more light on this issue.
Quote:
2.Berth Allocation could not be met.
3.Compact Accommodation Request not met.
Here is the IM link regarding 1st AC RAC.
Does 1st AC have an RAC quota?

If possible try to book your tickets in other classes (2AC etc) in that particular train or other trains like 3006,3010,2178 etc.

Hope this helps.

thank you autobot, you really are patient and to everyone who helped.
i got confused at some point during all of the searching and through that there were 2 available on that train.
thanks so much for your help, i feel a bit bad that it was such a silly mistake!
i think i will do the 2314 2a which leaves on the 11th instead as it is a bit faster.
thanks again

Just to correct delhiwala . the tickets can be booked on irctc.co.in from 6:00am till 11:30 pm IST. And if by chance money has been deducted from your card but ticket is not booked , then do not worry becoz u get ur money back in ur account within 3 working days.

Please don't feel bad. As Nick said, Indians who have lived their whole life in India, consult this site(those who know) regarding IR issues. You have no reason to feel bad. And most Indians in this site (including myself) will vouch for the fact that no amount of travel books can explain/articulate/give-real-time-feedback as IM can do. I'm fairly new to this site but this has become my go-to guide regarding traveling in India.
Hope you have a great time in India.
