Indrail pass confirmation/re-confirmation?

Hi, sorry if this has already been addressed, I couldn't see the specific answer to this question but feel free to point me to a url if it exists.

My girlfriend and I have two Indrail passes each one for each of the train journeys we're going on. Inside they have all our details and details of the train we're getting, train number, date, station codes of from and to destinations.

I guess this means they are confirmed, or do we need to reconfirm when we get to India? Where do we reconfirm and how long before the journey? A photocopied sheet that has been sent with the passes states 'Clients are to ensure reconfirming of reservations on arrival at each station for the next journey' practically speaking what does this mean?

Many thanks!

I forgot to say, the two journeys are Mumbai to Goa (Canacona), and Canacona to Varkala.

Thanks!

You will need a reservation. Check if you ticket gives you a coach and berth number - if not, get your reservation ASAP. The Konkan coast is a busy line and both trips are probably overnight connections.

I'm pretty sure we have been booked onto the trains. We have two booklets each. One is a half day pass and under 'journey/ reservation particulars' it states 6345 22 Apr 08 LTT - CNOC. The second is a one day pass and states '6345 24 Apr 08 CNOC TVC'.

There are no coach/ berth numbers but when we contacted SD enterprises (the agent) we informed them of the journeys we wanted to take and assumed they would book us on the trains. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Yes, you are.
Train 6354 has at this moment 3 seats in 2A available for the 22nd, none in 3A. Please get your reservations NOW.

hmmm, okay. I guess I'll give S.D. enterprises a call and ask how I need to proceed.

SD Enterprises I trusted them when they said that they would send me the seat reservation details later AND (shouting to the rooftops) THEY NEVER LET ME DOWN, even for a christmas eve/day overnighter from Orissa to Chennai, mind you the train was so chaotic the ticket man had just about given up ... don't give them a hard time ... everyone i spoke to seemed to share my opinion ... they deserve respect.

Yeah they've been good so far, but I assumed they would have booked me onto the train already (expecially as the journey & date is printed in the tickets)!

I'm worried now

I know its easy to say, but don't worry ... give them a call but sometimes the person answering the phone is terse and communicates in Indian English so their nuances and non-verbal reassurances may be lost on one ... the promised details of seat numbers always arrived, though sometimes only a few days before the journey, and so arrived with my wife when she flew out to India to join me ... they may be waiting for Indian Railways to send them their latest batch of seat details, with yours amongst them ... they are not like the ticket agents travel guides warn one about, selling hopelessly wait listed tickets for popular trains and leaving one both stuck and embarrassed.

Okay panic over. Called SD, everything's fine. We're all booked on, and our names will appear on the charts/ carriages at the stations (even if we don't reconfirm), but said to phone again a couple of days before each journey just to check times and see if they have the carriage/ berth numbers.

Thanks for your help/ reassurance uncle martin
