Moitree Express - train to Bangladesh

Hi all,

Here is a chance to recount lost memories - the train service to Bangladesh has been started. The Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata Moitree Express (Moitree means friendship) started on April 14, 2008. The train will run on Saturdays and Sundays with one Indian Railways and one Bangladesh Railways rake. Indian Railways locomotive with haul the train uptil Darshana, from where Bangladesh Railways locomotive will take charge, and vice versa.

The train starts from Kolkata Terminal (formerly Chitpur) at 7:10 a.m. and reaches Dhaka at around 8 p.m. Another train comes from Dhaka approximately the same timings. The Indian rake will go to Dhaka on Saturdays and return back on next Sunday, and the Bangladesh Railways rake will come to Kolkata on Saturday and go back on Sundays. This is a 7 carriage train with no stoppages for passengers in between. The train will stop at the boder outposts of Gede (India) and Darshana (Bangladesh) to complete the formalities of the passengers.

Here is the link for images of the train: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bhaswar...7604655676383/

regards,

Bhaswaran

Thanks for the info and the pics.

Would be good to know what kind of 'First Class' the train has, First Class air con, or Executive Chair Class?

I travelled on some of the new Indonesian built Bangladeshi stock the other week, the quality of the accomodation is superb in all classes and is kept spotless by the staff. The onboard catering is good too.
Looking forward to travelling on this train one day.

I wish I'd known you were going to Bangladesh, would love their train timetable, Pakistan's would be good too.

The Bangladesh train website and maps that I found make finding trains easy, wish I could say the same for Pakistan.

There is no printed public timetable for Bangladesh, one of the lads I went with made his own with info taken from the internet. He took photos of departure boards while we were there to add to what we had. I'll give you a shout when he's completed it and mail you a copy over if you like.
As for Pakistan, they do issue a public all-line timetable, I got one in 2001, but the lad I went with has it.
