Indian Railways ticket counters in South Bengaluru?
Hi,
I need to get a friend in Bengaluru to purchase my train tickets at one of the Indian Railways ticket counters. My friend is new to Bengaluru and has no idea where the counters are. I have been outside Bengaluru for the last 20 years and I have no idea either
Please let me know where the counters are, preferably in South Bengaluru areas of Jayanagar, Banashankari 1/2/3/4/5/6 stage
, Basavanagudi, JP Nagar etc.
Thanks,
--Sudhi.

Why not just visit the universally available ticket counter.... irctc.co.in and if you keep hitting traffic try the private portals that offer ticket booking. cleartrip has clearly become my preferred choice....
Thanks jusmail, thejag and dhetul. Looks like if I buy the ticket from cleartrip.com or thru an IRCTC website/agent, I need to produce an ID when I travel. Which would be my California driver's license. That's OK, but normally I don't want to carry any ID in India, since I don't want to lose it during travel. And even though I am a US citizen, since I am of Indian origin and have a PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card, nobody bothers to ask for any ID either (except in airports, of course). Which is convenient for me (and also makes me feel at home
)
In that case perhaps, buying the tickets at an IR counter is the best way to go. And it appears that the Banashankari BDA complex is just 200 ft away from the Pizza Hut that my friend goes to regularly! So, that's just perfect
Thanks again,
--Sudhi,

but how far before the journey will you book tickets. cause if there is a lead time of 3 or more days then you can book an i-ticket and that does not require you to furnish any proof of identification.... this i-ticket is not available from cleartrip but from IRCTC.
Can I buy tickets w/ US credit cards?
thejag, I will be buying tickets almost 90 days before departure since the 2-tier AC tickets on the line I want to take (Bangalore-Coimbatore on Island/Kanyakumari Exp) seem to get sold pretty fast.
Btw, does anyone know if I can pay for the tickets with a US credit card (American Express or Visa or Mastercard)? I saw the IRCTC form and it seemed to accept only Indian credit cards...
As for where the ICRTC can mail the tickets, I don't mind the tickets being delivered to an Indian address and in fact, I prefer it that way. I suppose that option is available,
Thanks!

Yes, you can book with your US card. Just make sure you click on the payment gateway option. If you select I ticket, it will be delivered to a physical address. If you select E ticket, you just take a print out and carry it along with you.
