Qazigund becomes country’s heightest broad-gauge Rly Stn




Qazigund Railway Station, the last point of the 119 kilometre long railway line in Kashmir valley, has become the heightest broad-gauge railway station in the country. Official sources told EXCELSIOR that Qazigund Railway Station which will play host to commuters with the opening of Anantnag-Qazigund railway section anytime during the current month, has achieved the distinction of being heightest broad-gauge railway station in the country. Before the construction of Qazigund Railway Station, Shimli Guda railway station of South-Eastern Railway in Orissa was the heightest broad-gauge railway station of the country. While Shimli Guda Railway Station is situated at 998 metre above the sea level, Qazigund Railway Station of Northern Railways has been constructed at a height of 1730 metres above the sea level. Qazigund is followed by Anantnag Railway Station which is situated at 1599 metre above sea level, Srinagar at 1591.63 metre and Baramulla at 1582.79 metre above sea level.

Tempting news but the areas that the line goes through have usually been in news for the wrong reasons!
