Impossibility to book e-tickets online

It seems that now the e-tickets booking system on IRCTC is giving many more troubles than usual... it's no more working at all, not only giving some random failures!

After that I have more or less easyly booked and cancelled several tickets in the last two months, it's almost two weeks that this is no more possible.

I use to make payment through CITI BANK gateway; but now, each time I try I get ALWAYS (I tried maybe 50 times!) this message at the very end of the booking process:

You Were Trying To Use citibank Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To not Sufficients funds or wrong expiry date..

We regret that the payment for the transaction under reference no. XXXXXXXXXX was not authorised by your bankers and hence we are not in a position to process the booking.

Of course my credit card works perfectly, I have used it many times during this period with no problem at all.

If I try to use ICICI BANK gateway, I get ALWAYS the following message:

You Were Trying To Use icici Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To Communication Problem .

There was a problem in processing the transaction due to one of the following reasons:
You have used Back/Refresh button of your browser.
You may have processed the transaction from more than one window.
Bank has resent the transaction with the same transaction ID.
To check if the ticket is booked, please click on the "Booked Tickets" link on the left navigation. If not booked, you may proceed to book again. If excess amount is found to be debited from your account, the same will be credited back to your account.
We regret that your Transaction could not be processed.

Finally, trying with HDFC BANK gateway gives me ALWAYS the following:

You Were Trying To Use hdfcpg Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To NOT CAPTURED.

We regret that the payment for the transaction under reference no. XXXXXXXXXX was not authorised by your bankers and hence we are not in a position to process the booking.

What's happening with IRCTC???

I've just one credit card (and it's enough!). But I don't think it's a CC related problem.

The reason I feel it might be a CC related problem is that Citi and HDFC bank are giving similar messages, and ICICI is giving a generic message.

In the past, the problem almost always seems to be "Communication failure", or some technical error for eg, the page cannot be displayed, no response or something like that. In your case the problem seems to the CC itself, as the gateway is trying to process the payment, however its not giving communication failure but banking failure...

yes it is a problem- the best way to solve it is the good old way of purchasing the ticket directly from the res window- you can contact travel agents to do it for you if u r not residing in india- cheers!!!!

Me to!

But that's not much help to a European who will never have heard of Axis bank, let alone have an account there.

I was able to use my American Express card today with no problems - only twist was putting in my home zip code in the box labelled "pin code."

Gianni66,

Im experiencing the EXACT same problem trying to book a ticket here from Australia. I tried all the gateways and even contacted my bank even to see if there are restrictions with my CC but they've confirmed that there should be NONE. It's a classic VISA with plenty of funds so i have no idea why it keeps getting rejected!

And yes, its my one and only card, i dont need more!

So does anyone have suggestions? Is it possible at all to wait until i fly into Bangalore on a Saturday and see if i can book a ticket to get to Mysore the very next day?

Yes, getting to Mysore will be easy.

The Shatabdi departs Bangalore about 11:00, getting to Mysore at about 13:00 (going from a very old memory), the Shatabdi comes from Chennai and almost empties at Bangalore.

Book other tickets in Bangalore before you go to Mysore.

Edited to add - the grey cells are still working, the Shatabdi (train 2007) timings are correct, the train doesn't run on Tuesdays.

I suspected that this was a new bug of IRCTC...

There's always some new present of this system, I've been lucky to have booked all my tickets in time before it started to behave in such a lunatic way (the last ticket which I was trying to book was just a back-up solution in case I will miss a connection).

I'm leaving on Friday!

By the way, you say that your Visa it's full of credit... well, you can send to me all the details so that I can try again for you, if I don't reply quickly be patient... (I'm joking!! )

Have a good trip! Gianni

Steven, why so many except-one-day trains? Another example, that I have booked recently and had to juggle travel plans because of no train on Tuesday, is #2083/2084 Coimbatore Kumbakkonam Jan Shatabdi.

Is it some compulsory crew's rest day? Surely if there's enough traffic six days of the week, the 7th would at least break even, and be much more convenient for travellers.

Or is it just another Indian Railways "gotcha"?

Sorry, I've no idea why this happens, maybe to do with staffing, timetable slots, availability of engines/carriages, or maintenance or maybe a combination of all 4.

Sometimes the train does run on the 7th day, but with a different train number and/or different times, the Bhopal Shatabdi is an example, train 2002 (6 days a week) and 2002A on the 7th, and with slightly different times.

The Jan Shatabdi between Dadar (Mumbai) and Madgaon (Goa) used to be the same, only running 6 days a week, but having another train with a different number on the 7th, I think it only runs 6 days a week now.

I can't find a '7th day' train for the Coimbatore-Kumbakkonam route.

By the way, the Coimbatore-Kumbakkonam Jan Shatabdi is being extended soon to run till Mailaduturai Jn.

i'm in jodhpur right now, and i've been having another problem for the last 2 days. trying to log in, i brings me to blank page which only says "false" in a white box. might just be the internet "Cafe" i've been using. i'm going to try somewhere else later. meanwhile i don't know what car i'm supposed to be on tonight!

having lots of fun in rajasthan. i'll post more thoughts when it's all over in 6 weeks (not enough time to waste on the net).

terreneuve, you probably know this, but anyway:
if you cannot verify your seat on the internet, go to the station a bit earlier and find the "chart"; it will be posted somewhere (hint: porters know everything) and you will find your seat / berth number next to your name.

Now did anyone manage to book an e-ticket over the internet recently? Gianni's story made me wonder if it's time to get an AMEX just for booking Indian trains....
