Important Circular regarding Clearance of Tatkal WaitList.

Para (iii) states that:

"Whenever an extra coach is attached to a particular train, vacant berths available in that extra coach after confirming all waitlisted passengers of general class should be allotted to Tatkal Waitlisted passengers of that class."

It has now been decided that:

"Whenever an extra coach is attached in a particular train to clear day-to-day rush, vacant berths available in that extra coach should first update Tatkal Waiting list of that class and thereafter the vacant accommodation, if any, should update the general waiting list of that class."

this is a sheer WTF moment
why don't they just abandon WL concept for general quota. you check everyday & if anyone cancels & berths are available, you can get it. else go the tatkal way & pay the premium...

That, I am afraid, is easier said than done.

Seems logical from a Revenue POV. A unconfirmed Tatkal is cancelled, hence loss of revenue, while that maay not be so for ythe other WL category.

yet so unjust... if the intention was not to give the berth anyway, asking the person to stay in WL is just wasting his money & hope.

Please refer to this office letter of even number dated 15.05.2012 (CC no. 32 of 2012) on the subject quoted above wherein it has been advised that whenever an extra coach is attached in a particular train to clear day-to-day rush, vacant berths available in that extra coach should first update Tatkal waiting list of that class and thereafter the vacant accommodation, if any, should update the general waiting list of that class.

2. It is clarified that this provision is not applicable to the additional coaches attached as a regular measure of temporary augmentation for a specific duration like summer rush, etc.
