Hi all. This is my first post and was hoping for information on getting trains between Hyderabad and Goa. This is my first trip to India and there doesnt seem to be much info on the internet for this particular train journey, so i'm thinking its not a common one, or popular one.

Any advice on booking websites would be good? Or do i just book when i'm there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to India Mike.

There is a starter on train tickets here, http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...ts-from-abroad
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

There is only one train from Hyderabad to Goa and it does not run daily, see erail
One of the stations is Hospet, the railhead for a real great place called Hampi.

If you visit this you have some more opportunities : Hyderabad - Hospet and Hospet - Goa.

So I went through all the registration procedure, pretty straight forward in the end. When I go on ClearTrip and click on the train i want, it says "Could not get current availability. Please try again". Does this mean the train is fully booked up? Or this is a standard problem with the system and i need to keep trying?

Thanks

It sounds like Cleartrip having one of its regular hissy fits. What time were you trying. You can't use Cleartrip between 08.00 and 12.00 or 23.30 and 00.30 IST.

Ok, so I figured this train is full and tried to book another date. It says "Waitlist (18)", does that mean 18 seats remaining or am I on a waitlist?

Also, what does RAC reservation Against Cancellation mean? Do any of the above mean i have a ticket if i book it, or does it mean I am on a reserve waiting list?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It' all in this link http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...ways-waitlists

Bsically WL18 means that there are 17 people without tickets ahead of you in the queue. RAC gives you a seat but not necessarily a berth but is usually worth taking a punt on as it is likely to improve.

Thanks Dave W!! You seem to be an expert so i'll keep asking you. The train i need to go on is about 16th November, so i thought 3 and 1/2 weeks would be enough time, but it seems not, i'm on a waitlist. How likely is it i'll get a seat on that train? I am looking at AC2 ticket, maybe i'll try a lower grade ticket?

Also, if train isnt an option, what you recommend as the next best option? I have looked at taxis for roughly 120 (between 3 of us, 40 isnt too bad), or a sleeper coach with Paulo travel (makemytrip.com), but i hear Indian roads are dangerous, so 12 hours on the road might be tough going?

Seriously appreciate the help, thanks again.

The whole booking and enquiry system seems to be having a bad time at the moment. I went to the Indian Railways enquiry site and got as far as finding out that there are 2 berths in Sleeper on that train for 16th November in Foreign Tourist Quota (FTQ). There may be FTQ berths in 2AC as well but the system fell over before I could check.

FTQ can only be bought in person at nominated International desks in India. When do you go. Where are you landing?

ADD - There is an allocation of 2 x 2AC berths in FTQ for this train but I can't get the info specific to 16th November at the moment.

I am in Hyderabad from 11th - 16th November. Then heading to goa (hopefully Friday 16th). I will return to Hyderabad on 25th November. Even that date is has 3 RAC, so it seems a pretty busy period for this journey, for some reason.

As i said, i can use the coach as a backup so it's not all lost. Have you done any coach travel in India at all?

There is an International Desk listed in Secunderabad but I don't know where exactly. Hopefully somebody will see this and tell us.

My coach travel in India has been limited to daytime and I found it to be uncomfortable and terrifying. The overnight Volvo type coaches are supposed to be all right but I have no experience of them. Perhaps it's not as scary if you can't see the oncoming trucks on the wrong side of the road.

Haha, thanks. I've been reading reviews on the coaches and the train remains the favoured option. I've looked at going to Hospet, spending the night and going to Goa on the sunday, but even that is full. I'll keep trying. Thanks for your help.

I havee never had to check for a FT desk as I am an Indian, but in Secunderabad it should be at the Railway Reservation Complex which is a building located at one end of the Sec'bad Railway Station. Its just adjacent to Rathifile Bus station.
