How wide is the berth in 2nd AC
I travelled by 3rd AC last month with my 1 year old .It was quite comfortable except that we were sharing a berth at night and she literally kept kicking me off the berth all night
.i had a tough time with the little space she was willing to give me..Could anyone please tell me if the berths in 2nd AC are a bit broader as i am travelling again next month. Thanks a lot. |

arshiya, welcome to IM!
You seem to have quite a lively little girl . There are many members with lots of knowledge about Indian trains on this forum, I am sure your question will be answered. Sometimes you just need to shout a little, that's all.Hello, can anybody please help arshiya out on this one ?See you around then and have a good time in India. Are you willing to share more details about this trip? Just curious... |

unfortunately, there is no difference in sizes between the 2AC and 3AC berths..
sorry, maybe you can break the journey and only travel day-time then. |

Her you have a picture, but is not easy to know the size, probably is the same than in 3AC. The man sleeping in the picture was quite big...
I thought the berths were big enough but may be a one year old kid needs more room. Jorge |

Hi arshiya,
If it makes you feel good that I have found the berths of 2ndAC to be more wide than the 3AC. This may be just speculation as I haven't measured them with tapes. For a sure shot answer you can try the very interesting site on Indian Railway www.irfca.org, the guys there are totally devoted to anything related to trains and must be able to give you conclusive reply. Steven_ber where art thou?!!! I am sure Steven would have been able to help!!! And what about V.Srinivasa Prasad (vsp27759@IM)? He would also be of much help in this case.
Cheers, Aadil.

I rode 2 & 3 tier last February. Different routes but there was a distinct difference in widths. I have wide shoulders and would hang off the 3 tier bunk while the 2 tier was comfortable.

frankly, I really did not find any differences in the sizes of the berth from 2AC to 3AC. if there is any difference it might be pretty small, an inch or two. I doubt that will make any difference.
don't be fooled by the comfort of the 2AC to believe that the sizes are different. Shaktipalooza, she is not talking about the 3-tier. but 3AC. the only difference between 3AC to 2AC are the number or berths on each side and the presence of curtains in 2Ac. that's all! |

2ndAC is definitely bigger than 3rd AC
I have a 2 year old daughter and i can say with certainty that it is much more comforatble sleeping with her on the same birth in 2nd Ac as compared to the 3rd AC. This is becasue of the extra width in 2nd AC. The differnce may not be more than 2-3 inches but even that much is quite a lot

Ok. My advice, plan to not sleep at night... Keep a lot of topics for thinking through the night and when you doze off, you will wake up with kicks... There is no escaping it...
I am telling from experience and many a times I infact felt like sleeping on the floor Indian railways dont issue seat for children upto 5 years.. So be prepared for it for the years to come as well...
