How to transfer bicycles by train
Hello to all.
My husband and I are from Greece and will be in India in August. We are going to travel by train from Nizamuddin station to Udaipur. I have already booked e-tickets for class 1A in Meawar Express since I realized that the seats were too few. I only worry because we are going to have our bicycles with us so that to travel by bike in India but we are not able to book e-tickets also for them. I e-mailed the railway and they kindly answered me to phone a number they gave me for more information. But this is a bit of a problem for me. Could you please inform me about the current procedure for transferring bicycles (in Meawar Express)? Will it be any problem with our bicycles transfer due to that I have already booked our e-tickets? Thank You ![]() |

You will need to reach the station early. Go to the parcel office and book the bikes to be transported in the luggage van.

On a related note, not all trains have a luggage coach with them. If your train doesn't have one, your cycle will not travel with you, but come later in a different train to the same destination.
As someone who has transported cycle between cities 4 times, i can say that the probability that things would go as expected is 70-80%. If your destination is not the last, then sometimes railway employees just choose not to get your cycle out! Once my cycle destine to reach nagpur from chennai for unknown reasons went astray to Kolkata! But luckily, you always get your cycle. Sometimes at the expected time, sometimes a li'l later. With motorbike the risk being higher, for cycle you can always choose the rail route.

Thank you all for your answers, Indizen and Ganeshs 16.
We are going to tip the carriage attendant and hope that we will get our bikes in the same train. The good thing is that Udaipur is the last station for Mewar Express. So, we won't search for our bikes at next stations. Is there a possibility for the bikes to be taken out from train before our destination and be forgotten there? ![]() |
