How to go? Udaipur - Goa - Mumbai?

I'm kind of new to IM, and I'm reading it for days (I'm addicted now!) and have no solution (yet!) for my "problem"... Here it goes:

I need to leave Udaipur the 10th Oct. and to be the 14th Oct. in Mumbai to depart towards home the 16th... In between I really want to go to Goa. But as the time is SO short how should I travel?
Udaipur seems to be a complicated place for that reason!
I'm also only willing to fly (if necessary) on airdeccan, as the others are much more expensive...

Do you have a "solution" for me? I'm also confused because of the new times for trains that seem to be running now... How should I do this?

You can leave Udaipur on the night of Oct. 10(Mon.) by train for Kota, reach in the early hours of Oct. 11(Tue.) The same afternoon take the Rajdhani Express for Madgaon, reach Madgaon on Oct. 12 at 15=00.

You can reach Mumbai by 15th morning, again by train from Madgaon.

If you do decide to take the above suggestions, then rush with your train bookings!

I just checked the availability on the 2432 Rajdhani Express for Oct. 11 from Kota to Madgaon, and there's already a waiting list !!

What you can do is

1) Book from Nizamuddin to Madgaon in class 2AC, with boarding at Kota, under the foreign tourists' quota, which is currently available. This will cost you more, but you can travel comfortably on confirmed berth.

2) Travel by train overnight from Udaipur to Nizamuddin on Oct. 10 and reach Nizamuddin at 10=25 on Oct. 11. Then board the same Rajdhani Express which originates from Nizamuddin at 11=00. However, the difference is only 35 minutes, which may be cutting it too fine.

Another option (if your prepared to leave Udaipur at 05:30 in the morning) is to get a bus to Ahmedabad then take the following train: -

Train 6337 departs Ahmedabad on Mondays at 11:50 and gets to Madgaon at 08:50 the following morning.

It has 18 berths remaining in Sleeper Class (not air con) for Monday the 10th and will cost Rs 377, this train does not run on Tuesdays. (all other classes are waitlisted)

You could then take a daytime or overnight train back to Mumbai.


Why Goa?

If it's beaches, Portuguese influences and cheap booze you could instead try Diu, a small ex-Portuguese Island of the coast of Gujarat.

You could get the overnight train from Udaipur to Ahmedabad, then connect with a train to Bhavnagar (arr Bhavnagar at about 11 in the morning) then a 4 hour bus trip to Diu.

There is an overnight train from Bhavnagar to Mumbai, or a direct flight from Diu to Mumbai (US$ 115).

I want to go to Goa for the beach, the "fame" (not the party though) and the Anjuna market... Is that not so interesting?

So you think flying is not such an option?...

Of course flying is an option, but an expensive one. You can fly Indian Airlines on Oct. 11 from Udaipur to Mumbai and then take a train from Mumbai to Goa.
The airfare Udaipur-Mumbai is US$156/-.

But hope for the best. Take Karnavati from Ahmedabad, get down in Borivali at 12.00 and proceed to Santa Cruz where you have flight to Goa at 16.00 hrs. on MON/WED/FRI, and fortunately 10th October is Monday

As pointed out by Mr.Simla, you can as well take IC.7471 (bi-weekly/ex.UDZ on TUE/FRI) which departs from UDZ at 11.35 hrs. and reaches Bombay at 12.45 hrs. (Fare Rs.5915/-) and then hop onto the IC.163 Mumbai-Goa (Daily) which departs from Mumbai at 14.40 hrs. and reaches Goa at 15.40 hrs. and the Fare is Rs.4180

If the time at your disposal is less, then perhaps, IC.7471/IC.163 could be the best with c/o at Mumbai.

i am also heading there from rajasthan and have allocated roughly the same amount of time to visit goa for almost the same reasons (fame, beach, portguese ambience, anjuna market). i'll be there one week after you.
