How to get to Rajasthan from the East Coast?

Hello!

I'm going to India for three weeks in March and could do with some advice when it comes to going from the east coast to Rajasthan. I'm first visiting some friends in Visakhapatnam district in Andrah Pradesh (a beautiful state). Afterwards I'm planning to go to Rajasthan. I am struggeling a bit to find the fastest route (by train) from Vizag to Udaipur or Jaipur. Any suggestions or good advice in that respect?

Forget Rajasthan, there is a world that many will never see close to Vizag, consider going to the Araku Hills & the Borra caves, you could spend weeks there, and leave Rajasthan for another day.

To answer your original question, you may take the weekly express from Vizag to Ahmedabad and then change trains for Udaipur. However, this will involve spending the day at Ahmedabad. Alternatively, you may bus it to Udaipur from Ahmedabad.

OK, sorry about my first post, it's a bit of a touchy subject for me, I've been wanting to go to the Vizag area for a long time, and now I have the option to go, however, it would be in June when the weather would be imposable, so now I'm actually trying to persuade myself NOT to go.

The route suggested by SHIMLA is probably the best option, the train (8401) departs Vizag on Sundays at 17:55 and gets to Ahmedabad 2 mornings later at 04:20 (34 and a half hours), I think the bus takes about 5 hours to get from Ahmedabad to Udaipur.

The only trains into and out of Udaipur (until May) are to/from Ahmedabad, so you will have to take buses to other parts of Rajasthan.

Where else do you plan on visiting in Rajasthan?

There are other 'daily' trains from Vizag that would get you to Rajasthan, though you would need to change somewhere and these routes would be no quicker.
