How to book train tickets from Delhi to Shimla in IRCTC?
Dear all,
Planning to go Shimla in the month of August and I am not sure how to reserve direct ticket from Bangalore to Shimla (BAN-DELHI and DELHI SHIMLA) using IRCTC.
I tried my best and search in IRCTC but the site is too slow...
Please let me know how to book tickets.
Thanks in advance.

You have to book seperate tickets if you want to book online.
If you want to book all tickets together (to save money), you'll have to book over the counter.

Sometimes that site just works, and when it does its great.
At other times, I call it 'steaming heap of stinking doggy dung', which at least helps to keep me cheerful. I've booked four journeys recently, plus three others that were cancelled, sometimes it was fine, at others I needed the sense of humour not to sling my monitor through my window.
It can be good to use a site like erail to check out the trains, and then just book in irctc.

Thought of taking Sampark Kranti which reaches Delhi at 9:20 AM. I was told by one of my friend that, we can't reserve tickets from Delhi to Shimla as KALKA-SHIMLA is narrow gauge and it has to be taken seperately. Is it true...???

Hi,
I've just booked Delhi - Shimla. You book the two parts seperately - first Delhi to Kalka, and then Kalka to Shimla (Simla on the rail booking website). I had no problems booking tickets for six of us to travel.
Hope this helps.

Just a thought instead of competing with 100's of thousands of people logged into the IRCTC webpage trying to book, you can also do it via your mobile telephone.
I hope you're more savvy than me when it comes to the annoying little things.
Here's the URL address for more info.

It could save you time and avoid a potential nervous breakdown, in using the online booking system

I booked the Delhi to Shimla tickets (separate for Delhi-Kalka and Kalka-Shimla) on-line a week or so ago and it functioned very well. Had some troubles with connection when I tried early afternoon Indian time, so I tried again late in the evening and it was OK. Found the site quite well arranged - you can easily check the availability and price before booking and I had no trouble paying by VISA card issued outside India (selected CITIBANK payment gate).
The final amount charged to my account was slightly higher that the one shown on the booking page - by 30 Rs. or so on 1400/- or so of the total amount.
