How seat allocated at different stations?

Hi,

I recently tried to book rail ticket in 12978: marusagar Express.

I wanted to book ticket from Surat (ST) to Ernakulam (ERS). But when I checked availability, it was on waiting list. Si tried to check availability from jaipur station. There were more than 100 tickets available init from Jaipur.

So, I booked the ticket from Jaipur but change my Boarding point to "Surat". After ticket reservation completed, when I saw that my ticket was in waiting list as ticket has booked under Surat quota which was earlier in waiting list!!!! Even they charged me from jaipur station too.

I believe that railway should have give tickets from jaipur quota only which is same as for tatkal quota.
OR
Have I assumed wrong?

Any comments?

There are several threads on this subject on the forum. If you search for "change of boarding point" you will get a lot of information about this.

You won't br able to change your Boarding Point (BP) now. Railways alows ONE BP change which you have excercised by choosing a different BP than "FROM" station while booking.

The Seat allocation and WL/RAC status is dependant on the BP.
