how much time to allow between trains

I am wondering how much time to allow between trains when I am connecting trains. In Feb, I will be taking a night train back from Aurungabad to Mumbai (arriving at Central Station at 710 in the morning). I want to catch a train from Mumbai to Kerala the same morning.

There is one at Kalyan Jct at 8.50 (seems a bit tight, as it leaves less that two hours) and another leaving from Lokmanyatilak Jct at 11.40 (which would allow about 4 hours. Is that enough? Are trains often late?

Connection time may not be the main issue here, availability will be the biggest determining factor.

The train that gets to Central at 07:10 (train 7058) actually calls at Kalyan at 05:55, and that should allow plenty of time to catch the 08:50 departure. (train 2618)

Also note, that same 08:50 departure calls at Manmad station (110kms from Aurangabad) at 04:40.

But availability may be a problem for train 2618, there will be very few berths used for people boarding at either Kalyan or Manmad, so the train would need to be booked very early.

time between trains

Thankyou for your prompt response. I am trying to book on the Indian Railways site for late February but I am told that you cannot do it yet.

Should I book somewhere else?

IRCTC will allow you to book 91 days ahead for train 7058, and 92 days ahead for train 2618 (because it starts it's journey in Delhi the day before you will board the train).

No website allows bookings before that.
