How much fast are SUPER FAST trains?
Recently I was surfing Indian Railway site for travel to Agra cantt from Kalyan Jn.I foundthat an ordinary train named Barrely Express has 17 halts from Kalyan to Agra where as a Super fast train named Punjab mail has 30 [yes thirty] halts. We pay Super Fast charges for these SF trains but are offered slow trains.Just as I came across this,I am interested in knowing if other such slow SF trains are running on any section. So if any boarder knows about it please notify. Thanks from Dr.Pravin Gupta

IR does not make any sense at all. Check these figures...12571 has 1 stop between HWH & BBS and takes 6:15 hrs
12837 has 8 stops between HWH & BBS and takes 6:35 hrs
12887 has 6 stops between HWH & BBS and takes 6:45 hrs
18047 has 6 stops between HWH & BBS and takes 6:20 hrs
18645 has 18 stops between HWH & BBS and takes 8:05 hrs
FYI - the last 2 are not SF, so have lower fares.
1. Falling in the same category does not mean the trains would be judged in the same category.
2. If I had to compare between Falaknuma and say some Jan Shatabdi, Falaknuma would win the race.
3. Most of the times, the schedule are a bit tweaked to give in way to other trains.
For example:-
If one train A has to reach station X (Single line) at 10:00 hours whereas another train B comes from a different direction which can easily reach station X before 10:00 hours and even leave the same within time, it would still be probably held at a previous station to give in way to Train A.

my point exactly... as i recall, SF is classified as AVG speed above 55kmph - that could mean it could crawl through some areas (where passengers trains are faster) & run like a wild horse and be faster than rajdhani on some stretches... i use http://indiarailinfo.com to compare the total journey time between trains and then decide which train to purchase tickets on.
